Most affordable country to live in the UK.

New survey claiming UK is worst country to live in Europe?

  • One thing that makes me question to validity of this survey. Many of the articles I've read on it claim the survey stated that the average wage in the UK is £35,000 a year, while in France it is £25,000 a year. That is absolute nonsense, comparitively vey few people in the UK are earning £35,000 a year, £35,000 is big money in the UK for the average person, and no where near the majority of people in this country are earning anything near that. If someone manages to get a job paying £30,000, they think they're made, so £35,000 as an average sounds quite frankly absurd to me. Also, I don't understand how the average French wage could be lower when even their minimum is higher than ours.

  • Answer:

It was obviously a very poorly carried out survey and all of its findings can be ignored.

Most "surveys" are carried out in London as the idiots that do them are unaware that anything exists outside the M25. There the cost of living is much higher than the rest of the country and the results reflect that. If they did the survey country wide the results would be much different.

Yeah thats why all the dross of the world heads to the UK passing every other European country because we're the worst place to live!

We get some amazing, questionable, statistics here in the U.S. too. It makes me wonder where these figures are coming from. The reason the unemployment percentage is not higher is because they just won't give it to many people. Many of us are just slaves to the housing market. The rich help the rich.

I agree with you re. average wages. 'Worst country in Europe?' They have clearly never been to Belgium ;-))

Its easy to compile statistics to prove whatever, Would you fancy living in Romania or Bulgaria? French and German peasant farmers all claim they are living on the breadline. Italians all reckon their country is the dustbin of Europe, possibly true in the case of Naples, where they are never emptied due to mafia control. I doubt if anywhere can be considered the worst place to live in Europe.

Who would want to live in Europe? Seriously major riots over soccer games, + the EU can't even defend itself..

You are so right about Belgium and France and any other country. In recent reports France doesn't want its foreign visitors living in their streets, and rightly so. (Yet they are not called racist) Britain on the other hand provides the means to live on and off the streets, most of the time. It would be worth looking at property costs in France to see the difference as this provides an explanation for pay differences. If the average wage in the UK is £35,000 a year then there are people getting a great deal more than £35k to make this an average.
