Which is a better town with a good university, in England, out of these choices below...?
-
I am planning to study abroad in England next year in the fall-i'm from the US, majoring in English- and need some input from the locals or people who have experienced these places. School choices are: University of Central Lancashire, University of Chester, University of Sunderland. In each of the University cities (Preston, Chester, Sunderland) which area is more friendly? Is the place boring or full of things to do/see? What place is more expensive/ cheaper? etc... I've heard a few things about each city and University and it seems like University of Chester would be the best choice? Or should I opt for a University in Scotland instead, although I would really like to visit England :)

Depends on what you are looking for and what you are studying. University of Central Lancashire is a new university that was originally Lancashire Polytechnic. Ranked 100 best university in the UK. University of Sunderland is a new university that was a originally Sunderland Polytechnic. ranked 81 best university in the UK Chester is a historic city with lots of to offer. It is very popular with people from the local area and has a OK nightlife. Crewe is a old railway town that has seen better days. Warrington is an up and coming town with lots of investment and a good nightlife. Sunderland is ranked as one of the worst places to be. high unemployment, high crime, but very cheap. Preston is the newest city in England and has a good nightlife and shopping. It is not as historic as Chester but does contain the national Football museum.

Go to Scotland instead. Just avoid Abertay Tech college!

I agree, I've heard good things about the University of Chester. But to be honest I would travel to London because there are some great Universities down there such as Goldsmith's University of London and UEL the University of East London. One of the benefits of these Universites is that you bound to meet people from Country as well as mingling with people from different nationalites.

Of that choice, Preston has more to offer. (a) The Polyversity (The ex Polytechnics) is a good one, with superb facilities. (b) The City has everything you need, and you are in close range to Manchester, Liverpool, Blackpool, Lake District and many more places. (c) You will be able to afford to enjoy those places as rents are still cheap. Sunderland will have cheap rent too. Chester will not.
