Is Bristol a safe city?

Which city do you think is best, Bristol (England) or Newport (South Wales)?

• I am born and bred Bristolian, and I personally think Bristol. However, my Dad, who has lived in both cities, much prefers Newport. His argument is that although Newport is much smaller than Bristol, that it has more amenities than Bristol, such as various sporting facilities. But my argument is that Bristol is a) much bigger, b) it has a lot more tourist attractions, and c) it has lots more history behind it than Newport. However, what is your opinion, and which of the two cities do you prefer?
