Hi - try the Enjoy England website, for a wide range of great places to stay in England this Christmas: http://www.enjoyengland.com/stay/occupancy-survey/index.aspx http://search.enjoyengland.com/en-GB/SearchResults/Default.aspx?ContentID&IndustryType=9&StartDate=2009-12-24&Nights=7&WindowSearch=7&Location=Selected+Establishments&Adults=4&Children=2&IsSearchFormAccommodation=True&sort=2 Consider trying a camping barn or farm stay - as prices are lower compared to ordinary self catering accommodation in country houses. Facilities are fairly basic, but properties are spacious and it's a wonderful way to discover the countryside at a great price. You can find barns from under £10 per night: http://search.enjoyengland.com/en-GB/SearchResults/Default.aspx?ContentID&IndustryType=1&Location=Selected+Establishments&Adults=2&IsSearchFormAccommodation=True&IndustrySubType=2&Rating&PropertySubType=505&Award&Sbly&WelSch&Facility&sort=1 http://www.enjoyengland.com/ideas/rural-escapes/landscapes-and-scenery/ Also check out our New Year Celebrations section, where you can search for special offers on accommodation and find New Year events /parties to enjoy around the country: http://www.enjoyengland.com/attractions/events/calendar/december/new-year.aspx Good luck searching : )

Some places in Cotswold are really nice, just have a look if you can find something that suits you!

You cannot expect to get a cheap holiday at Xmas/New Year; prices are bumped up for that period.

Camping in the woodland would be very cheap, somewhat chilly though

Either go someone cold to properly get into the Christmas Spirit! such as Scotland, or head South to Cornwall or Devon, which is slightly warmer. Being that we don't actually know where you are now, this is a bit difficult to answer, but I would recommend Cornwall; St. Ives is very sheltered.
