Answer:
It really depends on what you like. Personally I'd avoid Newquay like the plague because I'm Cornish and Newquay as about as Cornish as Skegness! If you like walking, there are coastal paths around the entire length of the county or you could spend a day rambling over Bodmin Moor with it's numerous stone circles and mythical places. Truro, the County Town is actually a city by virtue of it's cathedral and I'd say it's worth a visit, as is Falmouth which has lots of very interesting little shops and art galleries. Padstow is a lovely little fishing village from where you can take boat trips to see coastline you wouldn't otherwise get to see and there are lots of small villages near there that are very picturesque, Port Isaac being of them. The Lizard Peninsula is quite outstandingly beautiful, in particular Kynance Cove where my mother once lost her glasses as she dived into a wave! If you are interested in wildlife, the Chough, Cornwall's emblematic bird, has recently been reintroduced to the area - looks a little like a blackbird with a red bill and legs. The area around Penzance - St Ives - Land's End is also stunning with lots of interesting prehistoric remains and pretty villages. I personally don't like Land's End anymore because of the moron who bought it and turned it into a theme park. You will not be short of places to visit and there is plenty of information once you're there in what to do and see. Because I know the area I just go where I please, but one of my friends who stayed in St Ives recently told me about tours running to less well known sites of interest so it might be worth looking for something like that if you want to avoid the tourist traps. You can't leave without sampling the famous Cornish pasty and not that Ginsters rubbish! A real one, made with either chuck steak or beef skirt, packed to the brim with potatoes, onion and swede - lovely! Enjoy your stay.

Went to Cornwall the first week of July, wet, so where did we go apart from the above. Mousehole is worth a vist for an hour or so as well as quite a few of the coves and places around there, some really great little coves with fantastic scenary, especially Mullion, Lamorna, Sennan, Zennor, Porthleven and Pendeen. the telegraph museum at Porthcurno is very interesting, a lot bigger than what we expcted, Geevor and Levant mines are beautiful and well worth a small look. Then there is Trevarno and Trengwaiton gardens, beautiful. If your passing it the ancient hill site of Chysauster has a beautiful view as well as an interesting set of ancient round house ruins and Carn Eury shows how man can survive in some of the bleakest spots on a hillside. Lands End is fine but very commercial now in its center get there early, Cape Cornwall is another fine view point, only just up from Lands End. If we had more time there would have been Goonhilly Downs Experiance, St Micheals Mount, Hanging Gardens, etc along the Lizard area. There is plenty to do and see, all depends on what you like to do. Hope you have a drier time that what we did.

Padstow is nice, and there is some bloke living there who does decent fish and chips! I also rather like the area around Penzance and the Lizard Peninsula, with some great little hidden beaches and coves.
