Can you see France from Broadstairs, Kent, on very clear days?
-
On exceptionally clear days, like the last few days have been, can you see the French coast from the cliffs at Viking Bay, Broadstairs?
-
Answer:
The distance you can see in miles to the horizon is approximately the Square root of 1.5 x the height of your eyes above sea level in feet. Its about 40 miles from Broadstairs to Calais. To see that distance you would need to be around 1100 feet above sea level or the cliffs at Calais would need to be 1100 feet high. I do not think that either of those conditions are true so I`m afraid not. 40 x 40 = 1600 1600 / 1.5 = 1066 Ray.
