What are the best places to go in Cornwall?

Best rockpooling, cave exploring, secret beaches near launceston (cornwall/devon)?

  • Hello, im going on holiday in a week with my 14 year old daughter and 12 year old son in cornwall/devon and I'm looking for some fun beaches we can exlore where hardly anyone ever goes and we can have fun rockpooling and finding caves and that sort of thing. We are staying in a small cottage near the Lauceston but we have a car and can travel, just as long as we have time to do things when we get to the beach and its not too far away. We arent bothered about the need for a town or chip shop or arcades. In fact we would prefer if we could just go and have fun in the countryside where hardly anyone else is. If theres one thing we hate most its busy, crowded sands full of so many tourists so much you cant exlore and have fun. We like beaches with a bit of sand but we would much prefer rocks and caves and secret coves and things we can do like that. We love rockpools and crabbing and also we are all very good swimmers so we need not worry about that. If you know any beaches like this then please write the name or where they are or something (maybe a link to a map would help) Thanks guys and if you have any other suggests for things or places we should go then please tell me xx p.s if anyone knows what the weather is going to be like from the 22nd - 29th that would be a real help (just so we know what to pack)

Hi. The weather,if anyone could get that truly right they would be worth a fortune. The best guess (from the net)for Launceston 22nd on is,Sunshine and light showers, temperature about average,no heatwave on the horizon it seems.Try Netweather follow the links key in your location. Lauceston, you will be between the north and south devon coasts,Widemouth bay and Bude are not that far away but they are tourist beaches, north of bude there are some rockpools on the main beach. Heading south there are not a great number of beaches but some nice estuaries, nice walks and some discoveries towards Portwrinkle to rame head.Bit quieter here. Our favourite beach is Scarey tor on Dartmoor, yep you are reading this right. On the east Okement river. Drive to Okehampton,in the town center take the right hand turn at the main traffic lights, follow castle signs untill you get to battlecamp road, follow this road up a steep hill right to the top.At the army road cross the small bridge, continue for a little while, there is a track on the left hand side, park there at the top of the track,up to this point all roads are suitable for ordinary vehicles.Walk down the track, several hundred yards,on the left at the bottom there is a flat grassed ledge area, and there you will find some pools to frolic in,probably on your own, they are quite safe providing nothing silly is done. Before you go read up on Letterboxing your two should love a good rummage trying to find them.Live firing on Dartmoor may restrict your visit, but rarely about this site.Just a few Ideas.
