I Need advice on benefits in the UK.

Living in the UK for a year (Youth Mobility Scheme) Need advice!?

  • I just learned about the YMS and fully intend to utilize this oppourtunity. Because I just found out about thism, we are in a rush to get my husbands application in because he is going to be 31 this November. Before we send in his application, we need to know a few things about living in the UK. Things such as, where is the best place to live? (We are 30 and 27) Are many jobs available in the bar/pub/restraunt/hotel fields (we feel those positions would offer the most chances to meet people) Would we be able to survive living on those types of wages? I just need a little advice. TBH, the thought of living in the UK never crossed my mind until I found out about this, so sorry to say, i really dont know much about life in the UK and how it differs from Canadian life.

  • Answer:

Jobs are scarce at the moment. Those in the hospitality industry are usually minimum wage, you can survive but only if you live very frugally indeed.
