I am british and living in France. How do I renew my passport.?

I have lived in France for nearly two years and my British passport has expired. I am told that I have to apply for one in France as UK will not renew my passport. How do I do this please?

I lived in France for 7 years :) been back in the UK for 2. I had to use my nans address as 'sometimes staying with her', Its all I could do but it worked fine :) x
