England, Britain, UK??? Help me differentiate (10 points to best explanation)?

Can someone help me differentiate these? England, Britain, and the UK Here's what I THINK I understand so far (correct me PLEASE if I'm wrong): The UK (United Kingdom) is the proper name now for what was formerly known as Great Britain (yes??). If so, is it still okay to say "England"? And if so, what constitutes as "England"? For instance, I would assume London would be in England? But would Wales?? ***I'm also specifically curious about the University of Sussex (located near Brighton). Is that university considered to be located in "England"? Or would it be WRONG to say it is located in England? ==> The reason I ask is because the University of Sussex's website says they are located in "Britain." But I thought "Britain" was an outdated term (???). I thought it was more proper to say "UK" or "England"... Please straighten me out on these! 10 points to the best, most substantive answer!!!

Answer:
Britain = Scotland, Wales, and England. UK = Scotland, Wales, England + Northern Ireland. Yes, it's ok to say England (if you're only referring to England, and not anywhere else in Britain or the UK). A lot of people make the mistake of saying Britain, or British, when they only mean England. I'm British, but not from England (as I'm Scottish). Yes, London is in England, but Wales isn't. Sussex is in England, which means it's also in Britain, therefore also in the UK. Basically, it's fine to say Britain/British if you're referring to Scotland, Wales or England. You can also call it the UK (but understand that this also includes Northern Ireland).

I'd just like to add why Hannahdoesn'tknow got four thumbs down. Ireland isn't in the UK. And never will be. The Republic of Ireland is a different country to Britain and the United Kingdom. Northern Ireland is a small section of the Island of Ireland that is in the UK. Great Britain= England, Wales, Scotland. UK= England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Wales is not in England, it's its own country. I remember not too long ago watching a programme on BBC, where three English women went to Northern Ireland. One of them said something like, "us coming from the UK...". I was like, "you're in the UK!". So even they are misinformed. Hannahdoesntknow should get her facts right before answering questions. The ROI and Northern Ireland are separate countries.

Britain, Great Britain and UK (United Kingdom) refer to England, Scotland, N. Ireland and Wales jointly. England is just England. University Of Sussex is in England. It can say it is in England, or Great Britain, or UK. A town in Wales can say it is in Wales, or Great Britain, or UK. But not England.
England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all countries in their own right. England + Scotland + Wales + Great Britain Great Britain + Northern Ireland + UK (ie. a country called United Kingdom. All have the same sovereign)

The official title of our country is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". This is often shortened to UK, Great Britain or Britain. These are all current, modern, up-to-date terms. Great Britain is the island containing Scotland, England and Wales. However, it is absolutely unacceptable to call us "England" because you're effectively saying that the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish are so unimportant that you can just ignore us. A lot of people (myself included) find it offensive and annoying. Scotland and Wales are NOT parts of England. Sussex is a county in England so you can describe it as being in England, in Britain or in the UK.

Lol okay The U.K is split into four countries. England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Ireland is a seperate island next to the island of england, wales and scotland - they are all on the same island.
