Can you pay for your passport in cash?

Can I pay for a Travelodge hotel room in cash upon arrival at 16?

  • Hi, I'm looking to book a hotel room for me (16 years of age) and a friend who is 15 (who counts as a child according to Travelodge), however, I was wondering if I could pay in cash upon our arrival. The thing is I don't have a credit or debit card to pay with, but I have the actual cash. I also have my passport as a form of ID. So is it still possible for me to book a room at the Travelodge? (Bearing in mind that their policy states that any person over the age of 16 are eligible to book a room) Thanks :-)

  • Answer:

Nope, you can't. I used to work at Travelodge and they require to either pay by debit/credit card or pay online & take the confirmation with you. Most days the hotel is fully booked up anyway so unless the Travelodge you're planning on going to isn't very popular, it's unlikely they will have an empty room. The manager would more than likely stop your friend from staying in the same room as you, too.

As an ex employee of a rival to Travelodge, in a simple answer No you can not book in advance and pay cash upon arrival as you need a debit or credit card to secure the room (So if you do not arrive then you are still charged for the room so the hotel doesn't lose out). Ways around this is, if you are local, paying cash in advance should be fine, but the likely option is they will ask you to give your cash for the room to family or friend who has a debit card and for them to book on your behalf. Now with regards to age, if you are same sex then they are fine with it but if you are opposite sex then they may refuse your friend to stay due to age. The way around this is state two adults for the room as you are charged per room, and tell your friend not to bring ID. This is deceitful and I do not recommend this but again as experienced in the field of hotels and hospitality I know how some reception staff lack a bit of initiative and intelligence. Lol. Good luck and have fun.

Basicaly is not possible to reserve a room in a hotel anywhere ins the world without securing it with a debit or credit card, now it wouldnt hurt to get in touch with the hotel you are planing to stay and have a word on the phone with the duty manager, explain him/her the situation and if by the time your planning to stay there the hotel is not too bussy and this manager has a bit of humanity I dont see why wouldnt they help you.

you will need a credit or debit card to book a room online or over phone, but when you arrive, you can pay cash. not sure about your friend - prob at their discretion. lie about their age if you can get away with it xx

No. They will not reserve a room unless you paid deposit. Only way is on the day you turn up and they have an empty room then they will let you have that paying cash. But its not a reliable method as they could be booked up. If you do try this method, better to arrive early as poss. Also don't state that one of you is 15, say its for 2 adults both aged 16. As hotels can be fussy with young ages and they can refuse you without needing an explanation.
