What jobs are more stable and secure?

Au Pair jobs UK or Netherlands, how to secure one?

  • I'm currently in Australia but I'd like to go back over to the UK (or Netherlands) but as I will be moving over by myself (I still live with my parents now) I would like to become an Au Pair over there. I'm 18 and female. I have no idea whatsoever where to even LOOK for a job. It needs to be legit etc. and I'd like to secure a job while I'm still over here. What can I do? Please help!

  • Answer:

For the UK you first need to apply for the Youth Mobility Scheme visa then either sign up with an au pair agency or wait until you are in the UK and look in the classified on The Lady or look on Gumtree and always meet the family AND the kids in person before you accept the job unless it's through an agency that conducts full background checks on potential families. But don't try to do this on your own from Austraila - there are too many sickos posting fake nanny/au pair jobs knowing they attract young women but these are often human trafficking operations.

I don't think you have much chance.. Are you an Australian Citizen? If so, you would need a Visa to come and live here, and you don't get Visa's for Au Pair work. As the UK is part of the EU, all of the EU and people in the UK itself has priority over you. Which means you have a 0% chance of getting an employer to sponsor you. There are loads of people over here that are qualified for Au Pair work and as such it's not in high demand. Generally you need a Masters in something that we need to even be considered. I don't know why you want to move to the UK, as Australia is in a much better way and I would prefer to live there! It's expensive here and the economy is bad at the moment, if I were you i'd stay where you are and just holiday here. As you're only 18 you wouldn't get paid enough to support yourself, and why do you want to be here alone? It's a lonely place and i'm sure you'll get homesick. You can try the Youth thing, but make sure you find a reliable site, as the person above said, there are many sicko's in this country.
