I am Welsh, but live now in Manchester.Lived also in Scotland and London area in past. Edinburgh- lived there for a while and knew the city for a big chunk of my childhood when we lived in Central Scotland= classy, if slightly stuffy at times. Some great flats ! Glasgow- Know better and was a student there .Not the city some people paint. Places like The West End are perfect urban living. Love it! Durham- only know as a visitor. Boring student town, but easy on the eye! York. Nice city. Old Britain at its best! Nottingham- Had friends who moved there from RSA. Is OK but has a reputation of late for crime. Sussex- Home Counties, EXPENSIVE?! Canterbury -Too far from London for comfort?

Canterbury is now only 1 hour away from London on the new high speed rail line to London St Pancras. It is an okayish town surrounded by the beautiful Kent countryside and is handy for travel to France. It has an historic cathedral and therefore many visitors in the summer Glasgow and Nottingham are deadful Edinburgh is historic and fashionable The county of Sussex especially West Sussex contains some of the most beautiful countryside in England. A large percentage of the county is part of the South Downs National Park containing almost perfect small country towns such as Arundel and Midhurst In East Sussex I'd recomend Lewes

Edinburgh- Awesome old castles, some people with harsh dialects, easy-going, a little expensive. Has my vote, though. Glasgow- Really bad accents...like German...or Klingon, more cool old churches and castles, nice people. Also gets my vote. Durham- AMAZING church. Ahem...ANCIENT CATHEDRAL! Great uni. Not a lot of work. York- Cool old place. Old seat. Lots of province. Lots of sheep. Old Roman walls. Too many old, conservative folk. I know others, if you are interested?.....
