Some countries will not allow you entry unless you have a certain number of months remaining til the expiry date on your passport. If you are wanting to get an adult passport, you will need to send your application form off at least 6 weeks prior to traveling. This is because you will need to be interviewed as it is a new adult passport. I would say, if your passport is due to expire in March and you want to travel in February, it would be wise to purchase an adult passport and then you are covered and have it ready for the next time you travel. Your passport is still valid to the day it expires. Some countries ask that you have six months left to run on your passport when going, so you might want to check.
