UK passport traveling to USA?

Can you enter the USA from the UK with a UK 'temporary' passport ?

  • I've just lost my UK passport (don't ask) and am supposed to fly to the states in a few days. I don't live in the UK. I might be able to get a temporary passport from the local embassy, but will it get me into the States ? Has anyone any direct experience (this must happen all the time)

  • Answer:

I'm not 100% sure on this but I think a temporary passport is only issued overseas when you lose your proper passport and can't otherwise get home to the UK. (This happened to my brother who lost his passport when mugged in Italy). The temporary passport is issued by the embassy to get you home and is, I believe, confiscated on arrival. So the answer to your question is probably no.

Tough call my friends. US immigration is very challenging. Try calling department of Homeland security before you take the flight. Good luck

I think you need to address that question with your Empassy and not on this forum !!!!

pro_and_contra

i live in uk. ive never heard of a temp passport. but what i did was this..my passport had run out 3 days before i flew out. so i called the visa in london and went there on an appointment it cost me 85.00 at the time. i went there in the morning handed in all my forms. and in 2 hours after my passport was done..i just went for a coffee and waited for a while why they did this. this i think may be your quickest way to get a passport quickly.
