Where are some good places to live in London for a young professional?

Good places to live near London?

  • My partner works in Waltham Forest, London, but we currently live in Norwich, Norfolk. We're looking for a small village location and need to be near a station with rail-links to London (preferably able to get into London within about 40mins). Any ideas of nice villages?

  • Answer:

The best place you can live, as proven by Kirsty and Phil no less (it was named the number 1 place to live in the whole of the UK in 2005 Location Location Location) is Epsom and Ewell in Surrey. Quite literally a stones throw from London (on Epsom downs on a clear day you can see the London Eye, Canary Wharf and even Wembley) it is inside zone 5, so you still get cheaper London travel and has 3 mainline stations that all go direct in to London Waterloo. Epsom roughly 30 minutes, Ewell West 27 minutes and Stoneleigh 25 minutes. Epsom also has a good variety of shops and bars, gorgeous housing and excellent Schools! Blenheim High School is in act the most oversubscrived School in the whole of Surrey!! Epsom is also only a 10 minute drive from places such as Kingston and Wimbledon which both have amazing shopping. Being Surrey, and very close to London is isnt the cheapest place to live, but well worth it!

Surrey or buckinghamshire are good and not far from london with quite a few rail connected villages.

Brixton – Located in Zone 2 and quite centralised when it comes to working in the city but has a known reputation which will make grown men avoid that area at all times of the day. I always travel through Brixton and it does look quite interesting but the fact that I’ve seen way too many police cars and tape in the high street has made me think twice about visiting.

I live in tower hamlets in east london which is a place where a lot of violence happens wiv gangs e.t.c. i remember ther was a gang war between our area, brick lane and camden up in north london. everyone kept gettin mugged and all the kids carried weapons. but that is now passing slowly and there is an increase in the amount of police due to the olympics. however, stuff on tv gets people to exagerate on how bad london is. trust me the likelihoods of u getting harmend are quite low unless u do something dumb. the best are of london is south west. u hav places like wimbledon which is relly nice.

If your partner works in Waltham Forest I'd suggest the Essex area. Somewhere like Audley End or Saffron Walden (Audley End Station)

Kirriemuir is a lovely village outside London

Probably somewhere like Ingatestone in Essex, if you can afford it.

Bailey

Knockholt in Kent is on the main line.
