How much should I budget for a trip to London?

How much to budget for simple trip to UK/Ireland?

  • My husband and I are planning to visit the UK and Ireland next summer to drive from London to Wales, then take a ferry to Dublin and travel there a bit. We will be meeting up with friends to share a car, and just staying at Travel Lodges or such while we're there, and just eating at local eateries - but we do want to visit tourist attractions and the country - we'll be there 7-11 days so I'm trying to figure out how much money we need to budget for lodging, gas/petrol/ferry/train, food and entertainment. I was thinking like $4000 - which I think roughly translates into about 2500 pounds. Would that be enough or should I budget for more?? By the way, this question is NOT including our plane tickets, JUST spending money for the trip itself. Any help/advice would be truly appreciated.

  • Answer:

The U.K. and Ireland are two different countries so, firstly, you'll need to check that there are no immigration issues for either of you. For example, if you need a visa to travel to London (I don't know your circumstances, so I don't know if you do), then you will need ANOTHER visa to enter Ireland at Dublin. Also, you'll need to consider the fact that both countries have different currencies too (Pounds in Britain and Euros in Ireland). You will, however, be able to exchange any Pounds you bring from Britain for Euros in Dublin. And bring plenty - you'll find Ireland to be a much more expensive place than Britain.
