Is Essex university any good?

University of Essex or King's College London??

  • I'm wanting to study for my MA at a school in England. I'm not planning on a study abroad for a semester-type thing, I want to actually have a degree from that specific school. I've narrowed it down to two schools and two programs. I've talked to the admissions department at both schools and both schools sound great, which has just added to how hard this decision is. At Essex, I'm considering the MA in Theory and Practice of Human Rights program; at King's it's the MA in Criminology and Criminal Justice. I want the opinions of actual students... students from those schools or schools around them. And yes, I've spent quite a bit of time at both school websites. What is the school and campus really like?? What are things that make the students uphappy?? What are some of the best things the schools REALLY have to offer??

  • Answer:

I'm a King's girl. While I am not doing Criminology (I am doing a BA in English), I have heard great things about that program from many people. King's has a great history, and are very proud of it. The Strand Campus is excellent, as well as Guys, and the staff are always helpful. For me, what it offers is not just some of the best professors you can find, but also a great environment. Once you're in it, everyone starts recognising you. The people are also very open (I am an international student), and accepting of many things. A high academic standard is of course treasured, and you can contact your tutors night and day for advice. You will be taught under the highest standard. Seriously, KCL has a lot to offer. And it is a good name to throw around. Besides, London has a special feel to it, and King's values their students and want them to take advantage of it. There are a lot of clubs and societies, and many people are involved in volunteer work. The bars are excellent as well, and Tutu's at the Strand Campus has a lot of nice gigs. Besides, Criminology sounds so much more interesting than Human rights ;) Hope this helps! :-) I enjoy studying at King's, and...well, it has given me a lot as a person.
