Moving to Cambridge, UK and looking for a area to live?
-
Hello, I am moving to Cambridge, UK in September and looking for an area to rent in. My budget is around 800pcm for a 2 bedroom house. We have been looking at Cherry Hinton but not sure what that is like to live in, are thre any other nice areas? We want to live close to the centre. More importantly, where should we avoid? Both inside Cherry Hinton and Cambridge in general. Any advice would be great on this. Thanks Ben

Hi Ben September is a busy time as it's the start of the academic year.... good work checking it out early. Here's some thoughts: Cherry Hinton is a big residential area. It isn't that close to the centre but there's a bus service from there... also not too far by bike (popular mode of transport in Cambridge) Also consider: Chesterton is a nice area, the town is pretty accessible from across Midsummer common and it has it's own shops too. Houses on and just off Milton Road are pretty good but you'll be competing with staff from the Science Park (at the top of the road) to get a house. The town ends of Histon and Hills road are nice places to live, obviously handy for the town centre too. Newham's very nice. Consider, but see before you move: Houses on and just off Newmarket road are ok, but it's a busy road with many retail and industrial units nearby. Houses in the Mill road area are popular with students and young professionals. It's the most bohemian area with plenty going on. Rental prices nearer the station and Addenbrooks hospital will be a bit higher due to demand. The East side of the city tends to be where most of the University of Cambridge student houses are. Therefore harder for non-academics to find homes. Arbury appears in the newspaper quite a bit with troubles there, but you'll find some good value houses. Sure I've missed some places, but hope this helps Happy house hunting
