Don't listen to TSK, he's just a grumpy old man. The South is beautiful, and has many towns that you would like. But if you are from America, you'll have trouble moving here.

Bath is a lovely place but is more of a city than a town. If you're looking for nice climate then the south of England is the best. Warm summers (by English standards) and mild winters (more rain than snow). BUT I've noticed that maybe the people themselves are slightly friendlier in Northern towns and cities, however, this might just be a myth. I too would suggest Abbotsbury in Dorset. I live in Swanage which is beautiful but quite small and gets FULL of tourists during the summer. People who live in Dorset supposedly have a higher life expectancy too!

Liverpool, I love that city =)

From where ? Unless you're an EC citizen I doubt it will happen. If you're an EC citizen then i recommend Guildford. Lovely city, meats your criteria and easy travel to London but housing is cheaper than in the capital and it's surrounded by beautiful green countryside. Not cheap by UK standards though.

Sorry to answer a question with a question, but what country are you moving from and which region of the UK do you need to relocate to for work and/or other commitments? The number of suitable towns here is enormous and they vary in size from large villages up to city-sized settlements and even suburbs within metropolitan areas. fao TSK: I'm pleased this opportunity arose because you have disabled communications in your account settings, so there is no other way to contact you. In this recent question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjBLcu1FoXZOng6zA1lN3zDty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20120202060614AAMcSNo you wrongly attacked my answer by citing comments made by the user above me. I wanted to private message you about the error, but instead had to put a public edit into my answer to account for the mistake. There was then no acknowledgement or apology from you for it, so understandably I'd like at least an acknowlegement. I don't feel prejudice towards anyone because of where they come from and I genuinely don't identify with this North-South divide idea

As I said in my answer to your last question, as an American you will need a work permit and to get one of those you will need a Master's Degree or a skill that is in high demand here... http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/working/

Buxton in Derbyshire the high peak. I've been there a couple of times and it's a lovely place, my mum and dad love it! it's got a population of about 30,000, has a annual carnival which has great atmosphere, nice people, schools, great sights, not too sure about the climate but yeah it's a great place. The park - http://www.visitbuxton.co.uk/images/stories/tic_picture.jpg http://www.highpeak.gov.uk/images/tourism/buxton_cresent.jpg It's also in the hills, and has it's own water.

I agree a lot depends on if you CAN settle in the UK. If so, Chester in NW England,on the doorstep to North Wales, is great, as are the two big cities nearby of Liverpool and Manchester. The south is overrated, over priced AND unfriendly......COOL!!! What makes Americans presume they can live here? Can we settle in the US on a whim? NO !!! Immigration? Climate? Well forget Britain. We just have weather and it is rarely reliable. Grumpy moi? Live North and have lived SOUTH......Better here any day!!! If have money, can live really well in Northern England....
