Is Bedford or Peterborough in UK a bad area to live?
-
I wish to rent in a location close to hertfordshire but the prices a little high, i want a reasonable density of population to but do not want to live in a really rough area. I have choice in my budget between Peterborough and Bedford, Both have property at around $500 - $550 a month for 2 bedroom unshared dwelling (not flat) thats about my limit. If anyone has any suggestions on areas in Berkshire, Cambridgeshire or Hertfordshire. I work in kitchen renovation industry but have a 6 month old baby so want to live somewhere safe but also good for work. What about entertainment and other things, its hard to get a constructive viewpoint.

Answer:
The both have their good points and bad points. Peterborough has an appalling transport network, trains to London, Leeds, Newcastle & Edinburgh are great, anywhere else forget it. The Peterborough Roads East to West are the worst roads ever, I have to use them for work and the single lane A605 is a nightmare and it's permanently 40 mph stuck behind hundreds of lorries. If you travel for work Bedford is the one to go for, They've just built the new link road to the M1 too and it's a lovely fast dual carriageway.

I rent out properties and you are not going to get ANY good areas ANYWHERE in the UK at £350 per month which is what $550 converts to................. now if you put a $ instead of a £ you will find some you just need to put your criteria in http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/find.html?locationIdentifier=REGION%5E629&maxPrice=400&radius=20.0 http://www.look4aproperty.com/rent-property/p41/hertfordshire.asp http://www.zoopla.co.uk/to-rent/property/hertfordshire/?q=hertfordshire http://www.magnoliaproperties.co.uk/rentalpropertyhertfordshire.htm http://homes.trovit.co.uk/for-rent-hertfordshire

Both Bedford and Peterborough have very large numbers of immigrants ,Bedford's are mainly Asian immigrants and Peterborough have a large Eastern European populace . Given a choice I personally would opt for Peterborough ,but then again Bedford is not all that bad ,but I would probably like to live in Cambridgeshire ,for it's scenic qualities than I would above the others you have listed.

Peterborough really isn't as bad as people say, but it can be a little bit sh!t. Well, it's one of the greenest cities/towns in the UK, as in it has lots of greenery. It has one of the best road systems in the UK. It should be noted that we have one of the highest immigrant populations in the UK, some parts of it feel more like Lithuania. It has a fantastic cathedral right in the middle. If I've got my figures right, it's had the highest economic growth of all the cities in the UK in the past ten years. Things are looking great for its footy team. Oakham Ales in Peterborough make the best beer in the world, in my opinion. The people, well, many are normal, but there's an overwhelming amount of rabid potty mouths and drugies, but that's probably true of most large towns. One two many mosques. It's way better than Bedford anyway.
