Are the universities and colleges good in the UK?

What do you mean "so I'm moving there with some mates" ? You cannot simply decide to move to the UK, buy a plane ticket, pack your bags, and move. You may certainly visit without too much fuss, but moving is an entirely different thing. You need visas for one thing. You need to be accepted into a university before arriving. Of course the UK has some excellent universities. It also has some not-so-great universities. What will you be studying? Do you have high enough grades to get into one of the better universities? Ever heard of Oxford and Cambridge universities (which both have numerous colleges within each university). Do you have enough money to pay the tuition fees? Enough money to live on while you are there? You will not, in all probability, be allowed to work. Moving to the UK is at least as difficult as moving from the UK to the USA.

Everyone complains about high tuition fees in Britain, £9000 a year, but from what I've heard they're higher in the US. And we have no fraternities, so no need to embarrass yourself! Oxford and Cambridge are two of the best universities in the world, and other universities are good. Just look at the league tables for whatever you want to study. We do have some bad unis as well. London is very expensive so I wouldn't reccomend it unless you have a job, so I would reccomend Manchester If you want the city lifestyle. the best universities in Britain form the "Russell group" so look at Russell group universities if you want the best- its sort of like the Ivy League.

SOme of the best............BUT you need to do some research, you are American you can't just 'move there with some mates' you need to be offered a place, you need a apply for a study visa and you need International fees which are very high before you set foot in the UK....as 'your mates' will too...................

I would suggest that there is no such thing as 'good' or 'best'. Universities and colleges are places where YOU have to study and learn. The more YOU put in then the more YOU will get out. Anyone who is prepared to study hard will get good results no matter which college/university they attend.

The standard varies enormously, from the best in the world to some you wouldn't want to attend. OFSTED ( Office for Standards in Education ) is the standards agency that writes reports on each one.

Yes. We have some very good universities and colleges in the UK, as well as our fair share of bad ones too. I hope you and your friends have got plenty of money. You're going to need it.
