Is Scotland a country or a state?

Should Great Britain devolve power to council and county area instead of old historic country/provinces?

  • Should Great Britain devolve pwer to council and county area instead of old historic country/provinces like Wales, Scotland, England? Currently the UK has devolved power to Wales and Scotland with Westminster being the state capital. Maniacs in parties such as Plaid Cymru and the SNP want to seperate the old historic region of wales and historic country of Scotland and become independent countries. Great Britain is the only real country and their is no difference between this place called Scotland, England and Wales and their not really different. They are all British citzens of Great Britain. It looks as though the Scottish are going to be given a vote on whether they want to be in the so called UK which is really just Great Britain with devolved governments in parts of their country. The UK is officially and unitary country with the capital in London. To avoid this happening in future should the UK devolve power to county and city council instead of historic and ancient regions as it is a unitary with central government in it's rightful capital London. Northern Ireland should come under direct rule from Dublin and hopefully will do in future. Ireland is Irish and cannot be made British. Great Britain is British. Ireland is Irish and definately not British.

Stick to trying to sort out and resolve America's problems...............and that will take forever before you try to tell the UK what to do.....................

I agree with your general sentiment but take issue with a couple of specific points: * Wales was a historic country with its own history and language, not a "region" * If power was devolved to small areas such as councils and cities, the UK would have a massive patchwork of laws, taxes, rules and services and nobody would know the score if they travelled more than a few miles from one. I would suggest keeping devolution to large regional areas

I live in England, I'm English.. I'm not the same as the Scots or the Welsh... Psh.

I wouldn't let Dublin run a piss up in a brewery

Great Britain is an island, not a country. Devolving power to counties would be an administrative disaster. Some counties are tiny unitary authorities. You would be turning us into a bunch of city states like medieval Europe. Dealing with so many different regulations would be a nightmare. The majority of Northern Irish people do not wish to be ruled by Dublin. I hope you don't join a government "Think Tank"...!

WALES is NO region and sorry Northern Ireland IS British, as long as the majority wish that... The BRITISH Loyalists are there.....Get used to it. Who are you to pontificate at us? Our differences are what we are proud of within the Union.......In the US? Put your own dysfunctional house (failed experiment in nation building?) in ORDER first?

I find some of that highly offensive. I am Scottish, I am not the same as an English man, I am no way British either, that term is derogatory and offensive to many and is forced upon people. England is much a foreign country to me as France Spain USA etc. The Uk is a smaller EU does that make somebody from France the same as somebody form Germany? after all they are all European?Even Scotland is in the EU so they must be the same as them by your logic. Then you seem to have a lack of geography knowledge Great Britain is not a country it never has been and never will be it is an island which consists of 3 countries. Scotland is a country in a union with a number of other country's, the act of the union confirms this please read the 1st 4 paragraphs which clearly states Scotland is its own country and is in no way merging with any other country to become one. It States Scotland will remain its own entity from England keeping its history laws culture etc Scotland always has been a country and always will be. Then lets go onto the fact the Scottish people have never had any say in this, this "British was forced upon them, the union was forced upon them everything the UK is was forced upon them and there always has been resentment. You will argue the Scottish king joined the countries and you'd be right but for some reason people like you forget to mention the months of riots in Scotland after it, all the troubles in Glasgow etc all because the union was against Scotland's wishes The only maniacs about are people like you who try to claim Britain is a country when it never has been iver. The UK is not Britain if you think that you need your balls reattached. If anything should happen in the future we should all have our rightful nationalities restored and out country's back form the corrupt British government.
