I need a cheap university for my postgraduate in Australia.

What University should I choose? Swansea, East Anglia or Kent?

  • Hi :) I have to apply for uni by the 15th of October and I have to decide between; Swansea University, University of east Anglia and the University of Kent. I want to study International Business, in Swansea you can have a year abroad in a university in Europe, Australia or North America. You can do the same in Kent but only in Europe and it is to work. In the University of East Anglia I can only do normal Business Management so the course is only 3 years long without a masters degree and so you can not have a year abroad. So the course I think I like the most International Business in Swansea because I like the idea of going to America or Australia because it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience a university in one of those countries. The only problem is I do not know where in Australia or North America I would be studying, is it only partner universities or can you choose any? At university I would like to get a good degree but at university you need to have fun :) this is a very important subject to where I choose to study. At Swansea University I hear the clubs and societies are very good, I would like to do 'snowriders' and various others, also at University of East Anglia. I'm not sure whether they do it at Kent, I would also like a university with a very good nightlife. So at the moment I am very drawn to Swansea as I really like the course, the clubs and societies are great and the area is meant to have a great nightlife and also you are next to the beach :) Half of the students at Swansea are Welsh and half are from England. I'm from Essex, do you think they'd be welcoming to English people haha? I hear everyone is really friendly there and I get a long with everyone I meet :) UEA is in Norwich, I have not heard much about the area though, is it nice? and what are the people like? I hear Kent is nice, I think its in Canterbury, is it nice there? :P Any information on the area, people, course and university is greatly appreciated :) Thanks.

    Swansea University in one paragraph... "Swansea is a fabulous university with good town, beach and country access. As a campus based university it has good facilities and good transport links. It also offers good sporting facilities for the beginners to the elite.....

I think you have made up your mind and want to go to Swansea - you are the one doing the course so only you can make that decision. Swansea is about as far from London as you can get unless you go to Scotland or the very North of England so you might find yourself a bit out of the way there. UEA is not seen as a great uni and although Norwich is lovely, it can be a bit staid and oldy worldy. You are from Essex so you can always just jump on a train to see it - can't understand why you have not done that. I live near Canterbury and love the city. It does have good nightlife but the uni is out of town - but with busses every 10 mins and most of the student accommodation is in Sturry on the other side of Canterbury. the campus is beautiful surrounded by fields and bluebell woods. Not so good in the middle of winter though!! The good thing about Canterbury, as well as being only a short bus ride to the coast on hot sunny days, is that it is a quick train journey to Dover and then a short channel crossing to the rest of Europe so you can visit far more places. Again, why do you not get on a train and have a look at the place. You have to visit the uni you want to go too. They can put loads of bumf into their prospectus but you are not going to know if it is the right place for you until you do visit so find out when the open days are and attend them.
