Are Advanced Train Tickets valid if I miss the specified train because an earlier train is delayed?

Time between connecting trains?

  • Hi, I'm thinking to buy 2 separate tickets(cheapest non- refundable specific train ones) from Edinburgh to Newcastle, then there is a gap of 14 minutes and to take Newcastle to York train. Do you think 14 minutes is enough time to change to another train, do the trains come on time and what happens if I miss my second train because of the first one being delayed? Will they let me take another train to York if the original one is missed? Thanks!

  • Answer:

14 minutes is more than enough time to get between any two points in Newcastle station. If you miss one train from Newcastle to York, you can always just get the next one. They're really regular - at least 3 or 4 an hour. There journey isn't bad either. About an hour, so even if there are no seats, you can always just stand at the end of one of the carriages. If the train is on time, 14 minutes will be plenty to make the connection.

Trains sometimes run late, but it should not be a problem. You can catch the next one, if it is on the same day. If you have a seat reservation, you would not be able to use it on another train.
