What are the safer areas to live in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and is it advisable to live on the ground floor?
-
Hi. I will be moving to Newcastle Upon Tyne in a few short weeks and I am looking for a place to stay for 9 months, and though there are answers which pertain to my question, they are kind of outdated. During my first year I lived in University Accommodation, but now that I have to find my own private accommodation, I am worried about which areas I should avoid, and which I should consider. Though Jesmond is a student haven, I would rather find somewhere less..happening. In addition, most places for rent are those on the ground floor, and since most people have legs, they could easily reach into the house, right? So could anyone, please, help me make a decision on where I should consider, and is a ground floor apartment feasible?? THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! Your answers are greatly appreciated.

Answer:
Yep, Heaton is good. It has a decent mixture of students and young professionals. Gosforth is nice. Leafy, cosmopolitan and really easy to get to the city centre. Ouseburn is cool, most of Fenham is decent enough, parts of Gateshead are surprisingly nice. Benwell, Elswick, Shieldfield and certain parts of Byker are the only dodgy areas to avoid at all costs. Everywhere else should be fine. Most students spend three years in Newcastle without experiencing any problems at all.

Throckly and Walbottle are nice Try Gosforth, Kingston Park
sandyford flats are available to rent
Blyth have many flats to rent, however it's not the most best of places chav wise... but the chavs tend to start on other chavs their own age... it's only about a 50 minute bus journey back into newcastle or about 20/25 minutes in the car. It's a nice little town, there's not too much to worry about there. If you think of living in blyth, i recommend near the market place flat wise, you won't find many flats in south beach which is posh and you won't find any in newsham farm... but there's plenty of flats in the town centre or in newsham or cowpen, but out of the 3 areas, definitely go for the town centre, it's so much nicer. :)
