What is in Newcastle upon Tyne?

What are the safest neighbourhoods in Newcastle upon Tyne?

  • What are the safest (lowest crime rate) neighbourhoods in Newcastle upon Tyne? Thanks!

  • Answer:

This is my assumption... 1st place the least crime rate - West Jesmond/High West Jesmond - Central/east Gosforth - Kingston Park - I like to think Heaton is next but it's probably not. Not Byker & Walker - Doh! See link for Crime Map Dec 2011. It is 4x higher than Jesmond, Heaton & Gosforth. My brother lives next to Byker Wall. I have lived & worked in Jesmond. I have lived in Gosforth. I have worked in Kingston Park. I grew up in Heaton. The student mix has quadrupled in Jesmond & Heaton over the last 20 years but they are not the main criminals!

Just stay well clear of the EastEnd (Byker, Walker and Walkergate) and the West End (Benwell, Scotswood and Elswick) and you're pretty much likely to be ok. Jesmond is statistically the safest, but it's also the most upmarket neighbourhood, so safety comes with high price tag.
