Good gyms in Manchester?

  • I am looking for a good gym in Manchester. I am going to university there and starting from next year I wish to join a new gym since the one I am at now (Armitage Center) is not very good. It has to be quite close to the university or within reasonable walking distance (lets say up to a 20 minute walk or at the most a short bus ride) from the university or perhaps down Oxford/Wilmslow road. Since I am a student, cost is very important so I am looking for something less than 300 pounds total for a 9 month membership. Can anybody recommend me some gyms?

    Have you tried the Sugden Centre? It's cheap, especially if you are a student, and really convenient for the universities. I've only ever used a couple of gyms so maybe can't comment on what is a good gym but I've always found it to be pretty decent.
