Boxing Day Birthday - what to do?!?

  • Hi I live in MAncehster, UK and it's my 30th birthday on boxing day. I had a party a few weeks ago, as no one ever wants to go out near xmas time, but I want to go somewhere on the actual night with my family and close friends. Does anyone know of a nice restaurant, with maybe some entertainment, that will actually be busy on boxing night (everywhere is usually empty on that day!) in the Manceshter area Thanks

    I'm not sure as I'm never in town on Boxing Day, but I have two ideas... I notice some shops are opening for the sales that day, but unfortunately there are no classy restaurants along the Market St/Piccadilly Gardens corridor that come to mind. And the chain ones in the Arndale and Printworks are v samey. How about the Trafford Centre? They are open till 8 that night. Another idea would be to go somewhere small, so when your family and friends show up they fill the place. Several places come to mind in the Northern Quarter especially: The Market Restaurant, Sweet Mandarin and The Northern Quarter Bar & Restaurant. Not sure about opening hours, but worth ringing to check. Finally...I had a friend in school with a similar problem. His mum's solution was to throw 'half birthday' parties in June. Just make sure everyone understands that despite it being only halfway to your birthday, you still expect all the prezzies and fuss!
