How can i get involved in narrowboating or the narrowboating community in some way.Iam in the manchester area.

Although i dont own a boat nor have the funds to i would like to get involved within the narrowboating community in some way,perhaps doing voluntary work for some organisation. Does anyone know how i could get into this in some way please.I have a real passion & interest in canal boats,thank you.

dont know if you know Ashton under lyne at all but on the canal side there, there is this place called portland basin and it has a canal boat society mail me if you want directions i'm no expert but we have been with the kids and the people are great.
