What are the best places to find a hotel in London?
-
Hi there. I'm an American citizen currently living in New York. I'll be traveling to London for the first time next month. I'll be in Londontown for the entire last week of March. I'm in the process of trying to find lodging for my trip. So far, I've concentrated my search in places like Wembley Park, Hyde Park, Docklands, and Earl's Court. I've discovered that almost all of the hotels in London are considerably expensive. Just to narrow things down, I have one question- What are the best areas to find a hotel in London? Other than the main tourist sights, I'm not too familiar with London. So I don't know any of the not-so-good spots in the city. So I was hoping if any Brits here could advise me on where I should stay during my trip to Londontown. And if anyone has any hotel recommendations, please let me know as well.

Check out Hotel Map. Very cool program that shows you the hotels with live feeds from the hotels themselves showing the best rates. It also will show you where the hotels are on the map with overlays for the underground and other cool stuff. You can find it on my site below: Let me know if I can help any further!

Avoid Docklands and Wembley. They're not very central. Piccadilly circus is a great bit of London, and it's dead center. Hyde Park and Notting Hill are good options, too. You may find somewhere around SoHo/ Leicester Square if you're lucky, there are a lot of boutique hotels around that area. Try Marble Arch, too, but make sure that you don't stray too far away from these areas, because the commute can be a real pain, and especially during rush hours.

Most budget hotels in central London are found in the following areas: Kings Cross (nearest tube - Kings Cross) Bloomsbury (nearest tube - Russell Square/Goodge St) Victoria (nearest tube - Victoria or Pimlico) Paddington (nearest tube - Paddington or Lancaster Gate) Bayswater (nearest tube - Bayswater or Queensway) Earl's Court (nearest tube - Earl's Court) All these areas are in zone 1. Kings Cross, Bloomsbury and Victoria are the most central.

The areas you mention above are all okay with good transport links into the central area. as far as central London is concerned, there are some less expensive hotels in the Bloomsbury/Russell Square area, which is close to the British Museum

Hi, personally I think Hampstead is one of the nicest places you could stay in during your stay in London. Its quaint and has a Dickensian feel - without the squalor. On recommended hotels, I have done some research on this. I looked in national newspapers, and I made a list of hotels which got recommended. Here they are. You will find cheap ones and expensive ones. If you visit http://www.ravishlondon.com/travel.html#recommendedlondonhostels Click on the name of hotel to go through to the hotel website On the address to see the hotel on a googlemap And on the year to read the article which recommends the hotel # Noel Street Youth Hostel 18 Noel St, London W1F 8GJ 020 7734 1618 Recommended: 2009; 2008. # Clink 261 Hostel 265 Gray's Inn Road, City of London WC1X 8QT 020 7833 9400.
