Answer:
From Liverpool Street take the Underground Central Line to Bank, then the Northern Line southbound to London Bridge. There are about 10 ticket machines on the concourse at London Bridge. If you have booked the train to Gatwick in advance, ensure you have your booking reference number and the same credit/debit card with you that you used online If you want to avoid stairs/escalators you can also take bus 35 from the street called Bishopsgate outside Liverpool Street Station to London Bridge (Stop on the opposite side of the road)

As a matter a fact, undoubtedly you can
If you are travelling during the week, you have no need to take the complicated route you suggest. Just catch a westbound train from the Circle Line platform at Liverpool Street (any route) to Farringdon. Get off there and cross to the Thameslink, First Capital Connect, platform - there isn't even a need to cross a bridge - and you can catch the Gatwick train there. Unfortunately, due to engineering works, this route isn't available at weekends at present. However, if you have to pick up a ticket at London Bridge you are going to have to use the tube which is a pain.

People have already told you about the tube, and that will get you there. OR you can get out of London Liverpool Street using the exit onto Bishopsgate, then cross the road, there are sevral bus stops very near to the Station, find the one that says 149, or 47 or 48 to London Bridge. It's about 4/6 stops, and in the ruch hour can take about 40 minutes. In the evening it will take about 15 Minutes. Make sure you are on Bishopsgate exit, as there are several exits from the station- it's a very busy terminus. The buses are heading South, and will have a sign indicating that they are heading to London Bridge. Also use this site for bus times http://www.londonbusroutes.net/times/149.htm If you feel adventurous it can be walked! Check Google maps- I've done several times. Last point- At L. Bridge- look for trains services to Brighton- they will usually stop at Gatwick!!!!!
