Where can I get Argentinian pesos in London?

How long will it take to get through customs at London-Heathrow?

  • I will be traveling from Los Angeles to London-Heathrow en-route to Lisbon, Portugal on Tuesday, May 25. I would love to get all my traveling done and fly to Lisbon right after I get in to Heathrow, but the only flights that I can find leave from a different airport in London, which means I would have to go through customs just to get to my next flight. The flight from London to Lisbon, however, leaves about 4 hours after I would be scheduled to arrive in London. Would this be enough time or would I be cutting it too close? How long would it take me to get through customs and travel from Heathrow to Luton or Stansted mid-day on a Tuesday? Which of these two would be closer to Heathrow and what would be the best way to get there? As you can probably tell, I've never planned a trip like this, so any other advice is appreciated. Thanks!

You are cutting it fine, in fact you could not do it in four hours. You need to allow an hour to check in for your Lisbon flight, that leaves you three hours to clear Heathrow and travel to Luton or Stansted. You should allow at least an hour to an hour and a half to disembark, collect your luggage, get through immigration (customs takes seconds as long as you are not stopped). Heathrow is a huge airport and it takes time to get out of it. You then need to get to the bus station at Terminal 3 or the underground station for the tube into London or Heathrow Express. It will take you at least two hours to get to Stansted, whether you travel into London by underground and then out to the airport by train or if you catch a bus from Heathrow to Stansted. It will take you between an hour and a half to two hours to get to Luton. The fastest and easiest route to either Stansted or Luton is by bus from the Heathrow Central bus station at Terminal 3. http://www.heathrowairport.com/portal/page/Heathrow%5EGeneral%5ETo+and+from+Heathrow%5ETravel+between+airports/0c0e9b25f9599110VgnVCM10000036821c0a____/448c6a4c7f1b0010VgnVCM200000357e120a____/ http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/user/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en&sessionID=JP19_2500066093&requestID=1&tripSelector1=1&itdLPxx_view=detail&tripSelection=on&command=nop&calculateDistance=1

Second previously sounded concerns — there're way too many ways you won't get to Luton (or Stansted). 4 hours is clearly not enough, I wouldn't recommend it.

You would have to rely on many things only allowing yourself 4 hours. 1 - is that the flight from LA is on time, it could be delayed taking off. 2 - it can be a long walk through Heathrow Airport to get to Passport - 30 mins. 3 - if you are not a U.K. citizen, you have to queue separately which could take up to 30 min at least dependent on how busy the airport is. 4 - you have to wait and collect your baggage. 5 - it is 1 hour at least to get from one airport to the other, you can travel via coach or bus see link. London is very busy although Tuesday mid-day may be o.k. but you only need one hold up/ http://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/interairporttransfers.htm 6. How much time beforehand to do you need to check in to Lisbon, is it 1 hour or more? If the gate closes you will miss your flight. I think you will be cutting it all a bit fine. Why dont you just arrive in U.K. and spend the night in London and travel onto Lisbon the next day. There is a Hilton hotel at Stansted Airport, http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hotel/STNAPHN-Hilton-London-Stansted-Airport-Hotel/index.do?WT.srch=1 so you could travel there in your own time, stay the night and catch your flight nice and refreshed the next day.
