Where can you buy cheap train tickets to London?

Can I buy train tickets to Oxford directly in the London Paddington half hour before the train leaves?

  • My husband and I are planning our trip to London (he is from Chile and i am from Uruguay) and we must go to the city of Oxford. I was looking on line for fees and times of the train and i found this page thetrainline.com where it is all that information. But my question is: can i go directly to the train station (London Paddington) and buy the tickets half hour the train leaves or must i go like the day before to purchase the tickets? Thank you to all of you, and forgive me for my english! :)

  • Answer:

You can buy tickets at the station, either from the ticket office or ticket machine, however you can buy much cheaper advance tickets online, but you must pick a certain train or your ticket becomes invalid. I don't use thetrainline.com as they charge a booking fee, individual railway companies sell tickets on their sites and don't charge a fee (you don't have to use the site of the company that's operating your train, as you can book any trip in Great Britain from each company's site). A normal one way ticket from London to Oxford costs £21.40, you can get an advance ticket for £4 one way. You can pick your tickets up at any Self Service Ticket Machine, by the way your English is perfect (far better than that used by a lot of native English speakers). Have a great time in the UK, you're very welcome.

Yes you can. Trains run from London Paddington to Oxford every 30 minutes and the journey takes 58 minutes. Travel after 09-30am weekdays, anytime weekends and ask for an 'Off Peak Day Return' which will be valid on any train that day and costs £21.50 You can also book in advance for specifically timed trains which may save you money www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk

You can pay at the station on the day, but if you know what day and time you will be travelling it works out cheaper to book tickets in advance either from ANY station or from sites like thetrainline.com.

Check if it's more expensive because I didn't think it was myself.. Have a lovely trip and you're English is perfect!
