How much will it cost to go to London?

How much it will cost me, if I go to London for a week?

  • I'm going to visit relatives in London this august and I already have an airplane ticket, but I was wondering how much will everything else cost me. hotel room? all the food? and I dont need some fancy hotel room, just something basic. and I cant stay with relatives cause they dont have any more place for me (I'm not the only one visiting them). so one week of eating out, going around, seeeing things and a hotel room. how much will this cost me?

  • Answer:

The best is that you don't pay an hotel but try to rent a bedroom by week (flat share), you can find a bedroom for 100 pounds a week even in central London and if you have more money for 200 by week you will find a top master bedroom or even a studio, try the ads on gumtree.com or on easyroommate.com, and for food, use the communal kitchen of the flat, buy in Tesco or groceries and cook... Me it is what I intend to do and I still never went in London but I will settle here in 3 months and nothing will block me, impossible is not french !!!.

During summer time, but also beginning of September, you could consider B&B type accommodation offered by some renowned London based universities, for example the London School of Economics (best price, central location): www.lse.ac.uk Prices vary depending on the type of accommodation (a bed in a shared room or private room), but they do have good prices. I would say 15 J a day for eating should do (depends on whether you can survive eating sandwiches mainly). Otherwise, try China Town for low-price good food restaurants (there's a Japanese restaurant in that area that offeres HUGE tasty dinner meat+rice for 5.95 - 7 J). If you have an international student card, you can count on good discounts when going to museums and galleries (even cinema sometimes). Otherwise sightseeing is free and you can see most of the famous London sights without spending a penny.

Cheap hotel rooms about £100 (british pounds) per night - sandwiches for lunch around 2.50, evening meals anything over 10.00 depending on where you go. London is not a cheap place!

Ahhhh! I'll be going to Germany in late August! Money to bring for souvenirs and seeing relatives, would be $1500 minimum in traveler's checks. $2000 maximum. It is safe not to carry too much cash, but two major credit cards will do. Don't max the credit cards, you may need them for emergencies. Word of note, you don't need to convert your money with traveler's checks. But if you need British Lbs. consult your national bank.

stay at the St. Pancreas yha in london - very central, breakfast is included - you can get a private room for about 65 pounds if you book well ahead. lots of cheap eats in small cafes. you can also cook your meals at the yha - there is a kitchen in the basement. pay for a one week tube ticket before you leave australia - much cheaper. do lots of walking - lots to see along the river walkways.
