How about The Hunterian museum? It's small, unique, in central London, has free admission and virtual tours on its website which you can take a look at from here: http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/about/virtual_tours/index.html#museums I visited it recently and it's not your average museum! I'm sure you could find plenty of angles for your dissertation.

The Geffrye Museum in Shoreditch, situated on Kingsland Road in London is just a short walk from the City of London, Liverpool Station then a five minute bus ride or about a 30 minute walk, an alternative route would be to travel to Stratford, site of the 2012 Olympics and take a train from there to Dalston Kingsland an equivalent walk or bus ride toward the city passes the outside of the museum. There is the Museum Of London in the Docklands area where they detail all the history of the docks and how it came from a hub of industry to a hub of commerce, including the efforts of the dockland workers during the Battle Of Britain and even some information on the slave trade industry.
