Can you help me feel the experience? The experience of walking on the cobblestone streets of Old London? :-)?

I live in the Philippines. I have lived all my life here. And, I have often dreamed of travelling to Europe. Especially London. Tell me........what do you feel..........and how does it feel walking on those famous cobblestone streets of Old London? When I see those streets on T.V., in a Movie, or in pictures.............I feel swept away by its mysterious past. I am in love with it. :-)

Answer:
If you cross Tower Bridge (from the north to south) and turn left into Butlers Wharf, that area is still cobbled and has a very Dickensian feel. In fact, it's used for shooting period dramas because it still looks old. It's a good place to visit with nice bars and restaurants plus great views of the river....

Hello! I went to London last summer, and loved every minute of it, in fact, planning another trip for next year. Anyway, the cobblestones are kind of hard to walk on, but so neat to look at and very different than here in America. If you email me, when I get home from work, I can email you some pictures of the ground, not in London, but got some great ones in Belgium. :)

well you could watch the old movies...that really shows the pleasure of it well or you could do a search on the internet. it really is fabulous and there is so much history of man kind in the streets of london. however now most of the streets aren't cobblestone, because that is not the most effective infrastructure. the roads are now paved and the thames river is overcome by development however when you get around to places like the tower of london and you can even go on a tour of the places where jack the ripper committed his crimes, thus taking you back to the old scary streets of the london night. london is a great city and you have all the right to be mystified by it. save up your money and go there someday it is a truly wonderful experience.

London is a wonderful city, but if you want to feel whisked back in time like it sounds like, you might want to visit some of the smaller cities. York, for example, still has lots of the "old" feeling and looks....and not so urban as London. Most of London seems very modern now, much like any other major city. Lots and lots of people with cell phones and Ipods...

You know, I really hate to tell you, but the only cobbles left in London are there for the tourists... My wife's American, and she was really disappointed to find that London now has electric light and indoor plumbing, and that Jack the Ripper retired to take up a career in politics... you've been watching too much bad TV.
