Whats the popularity of stand up/comedy-entertainment in England?

The English are renowned for laughing at pretty crued subjects, so as long as your funny in a British humour kind of way, you'll probably have quite a good career. Just upload some comedy onto YouTube, and see how people rate you. If it's bad, you'll know that your degree is probably the best bet. If it's received well, get in contact with your nearest comedy club. If your town doesn't have one, then your nearest city most certain will. Get in contact with them, and book yourself a slot. Comedy clubs are usually open mic sessions, where you can go and see how you are to a live audience. And then just take it from there...

Well, there are real funny shows on English T.V. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/tv Try watching The Apollo, Friday Night with Jonathon Ross or Michael MacIntyre's comedy. All on BBC 1. But then again there's comedy entertainment where ver you go in the world.

If you watch an american comedian and a british comedian, you'll see a huge difference. You've got to understand our humour, as some other countries and cultures might find it offensive. For example, there is a big thing about immigration, terrorists etc obviously in this country, like the USA and many other places. There are quite a few comedians from say iran or india, and they love to be racist about their culture. We can laugh at that and say it's not racist, and nobody takes offence. We like comedy that is borderline offensive, because thats what makes it funny. Take a look at some videos and you'll understand better.
