What is the cost of living in London, UK?

  • What is the cost of living in London, UK? Is $40 pound enough for 2 person everyday?

  • Answer:

I've lived in London and I can tell you I've lived off $300 (rent notwithstanding) a week comfortably. Rent notwithstanding, it can be done but you'd definitely need to consider your lifestyle and income. I got by by cooking for myself and only going out every other week. But cost of living is very subjective to your personal tastes, Regardless, this is what you should prepare yourself for if you plan to live in London: Rent: around £150pw (per week. You can find cheaper flats to the North. Council tax may or may not be included) Groceries: £60 weekly a pint at the pub: £3 Mobile phone: £20 (every 2 weeks-ish. again highly subjective) Oyster Card: £86 (one month with unlimited travel between zones 1-2) Nightlife: up to £20 for cover into clubs Cinema: £7-10 The one thing I can't stress enough is that things in London typically cost the same as any big city in the US (NYC, LA, Miami) except they have £ in front of the number instead of $ and that makes all the difference. Best of luck

Excuse me if I laugh. $40 for two people is £10 each per day. About £6 will cover travel for one day for one person...which gives you £4 to feed yourself, pay for somewhere to stay, and do stuff, so it should last you about, ooohh, at least 5 minutes... London is expensive and then some. £10 per day is NOWHERE NEAR ENOUGH. Figure at least £180 if you want to have a reasonably good time without being extravagant

No, you should expect to spend $200 US dollars a day on food travel and the every day bits of life. Now I only know that you should expect to spend $180 US dollars a day in a cheap hotel or $300 for something moderate to $500 for something lovely. if you're thinking of renting a flat, $3000 a month. I lived in a flat in Fulham and this was my average, one bedroom. I hope you have a good source of income!

$40 is only £20 stg, this wouldnt even last you a couple of hours. You don't say what you want to do when you visit London, but £20 would just about get you lunch. We were there last month and spent about £200 / $400 between us per day.

I should be doing something else

London is one of the most expensive cities in the world. £40 will not buy you a lot unfortunately.

yon_willis

Not even close. It's an expensive city. Lodging, transport & food would cost substantially more than that.

You would not get a half decent bottle of Claret for $40
