Where to live in London: Bloomsbury or Islington?

  • We are just about moving to London; I will work in the city and my partner in Bloomsbury. We are thinking about two areas: Bloomsbury and Islington. considering livelihood, closeness to culture and art centres, to top culinary institues, to nice cafes; considering urban atmosphere, top designer stores, good book stores....... which of them is better?

  • Answer:

Well for the requirements that you have put down Islington has it all, think you'll prefer it there.

I'd prefer Islington - its a great area with all the things you want (although you need to select the part you live in - Islington is the name of a large borough!) Bloomsbury is very central, and its easy to get to anything, but its not very residential. Having said that, I'd be happy to live in either!

Bloomsbury is much more central, and has many VERY classy Georgian residential properties. It is surrounded by some of the University of London buildings and also the British Museum, plus Oxford Street is a 10 minute walk away. If you are lucky enough to be able to afford to live there, then its no contest.
