Why do people drive on the different side of the road in the UK?

Why is the 'rule' to stand on the right of escalators in the UK when they drive on the left?

  • I am not from this side of the world and I would like to know the history behind why people in the UK stand to the right of escalators when they actually drive on the left hand side of the road? Has it something to do with the (continental) European influence where they drive (and walk) on the right?

  • Answer:

It's to let free pass to hurry people....It's real !!!

If this is the best question you can ask about the differences between your country and our Kingdom then you're not as smart as you should be.

In the London Underground, you will see signs both telling you to walk on the left and signs telling you to walk on the right. If you walk down Oxford Street, you will see people walking both on the left and on the right. This gives the British people maximum opportunity for saying "sorry" and "excuse me" every five seconds.

Don't know where you have got that "rule" from...all my life I have known it to be "keep to the left".

We leave the left side free, so that foreigners with oversized back packs, can charge through, and knock the shite out of everyone in there way. PS: we do not drive on the left everywhere in London.
