Train ticket from Gatwick to London – Should I buy in advance online for cheaper tickets?

    You do realise that the Gatwick Express is a complete rip off! It costs £15-95 *one* way and £27-90 return. Even with the 15% discount that still makes it £13.56- one way! If you use one of the [slightly] slower trains to London ( London Bridge or London Victoria), which are not Gatwick Express, then you pay £9-40 one way. Buy on the day you arrive. The Gatwick Express is only really needed if you are in a hurry! Second point- you are booking to pay in advance for your ticket- you can use it any time on the day you booked for. Sorry, but for me the GE is a big con for the tourists.

Yes the cheapest rail service is provided by SOUTHERN as opposed to Gatwick Express. They run to London Victoria 4 to 5 times per hour and the journey takes 32-36 minutes. Just buy your ticket from the ticket office or ticket machine before boarding www.southernrailway.com

I wouldn't bother if I was you, there isn't a discount and you're more likely to miss your train so I don't see the point
