How many streets in NYC, that are the bad areas?

Do you feel safe on the streets of London?

  • I'm thinking about going to London for a working holiday, but coming from a small town in rural Canada I'm a little worried. I heard the crime rate is six times higher than in NYC, and it isn't concentrated in the poorer areas such as the NYC districts of Bronx and Harlem. I also heard that nightlife consists of a race to get drunk before the bars close, and then picking fights on the city streets. I'm not much a of a partier, but if I did go to London would I be able to walk the streets without fear of being assaulted? I'm probably being silly here, but I'm sure you can understand why I would be a little apprehensive.

  • Answer:

London is a safe place...it is like anywhere in the world you just have to be aware of what is going on around you. I have been living in London all my life and after 11pm I am weary but if you stick with people or use public transport then you should be fine. They have cctv camera's practically everywhere even on the buses and stations. I would not worry and spoil your trip just be vigilant and make sure you bag is closed all the time epsecially on packed tube trains. I hope this helps and you have a great time in London. Leicester Square is always buzzing whatever time it is...just keep ur wits about you. Remeber to bring a brolly and a coat..as the weather is more unreliable.

London is a very safe city - I have wondered all over the city day and night and I have never had any problems. Just use a bit of common sense and you wont go wrong.

If you are white you have a higher chance of being assaulted in London or any other large city in the UK. http://news.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=1478452006

I was there about 2 years ago on spring break. we decided to stay out late on easter (out till around 3am) and i was very scared. there were many drunks wandering about, and pick pocketers as well. but, i was with a large group so that made me feel a little better. i wouldn't stay out later than 10 by myself, but thats me. and remember that the tube closes somewhere around 12 (i think) and the bus is filled with drunks late and you have to get a bus ticket ahead of time. london is a great city and if you are very worried about nightlife, don't go out at night. good luck
