A good place to live outside of Raleigh,NC?

Where is a good place to live in London or just outside it?

  • We are moving to London from Aberdeen in a few months and we just can't decide where even to start looking, so what's the best place for a family to live arround london with no more than 30 min commuting to london bridge! think good schools, coffee shops, things to do with children (my daughter is almost 2).. etc thank you in advance!

  • Answer:

The good areas not too far from the centre (eg such St Johns Wood, Belsize Park, Hampstead ...and many more ) are also the most expensive. Further out eg Woodford Green, Epping , Loughton are semi-rural in parts , very attractive , about 30 minutes from the centre by train, and because they are nice are still expensive but less so than near the centre. Parts of Enfield, Barnet and NW London are very nice too. The better the area , the better the schools.

If I had the dough, I'd opt for Greenwich, (where me girlfriend comes from). Avoid Edmonton, (where I come from), like the bloody Black Death! Poplar's also nice, as are parts of Croydon. Hamsptead's bloody gorgeous, but unless yer a millionaire, (and I mean a bloody MULTI-millionaire), forget it, 'cos it'll cost ya bloody shitloads! Leatherhead in Surrey, (where my aunt lives), is lush- (IF you've got the dough to live down there!) Kensington and Chelsea are bloody gorgeous, (but again, VERY expensive!) I, personally, love Enfield Town, (about three miles up the road from Edmonton), but again, it's quite dear to live down there. St. Alban's in Hertford's lovely, but again, it's one of these places that looks as though yer wastin' a bloody fortune just by passin' through the bleedin' place! The short of it is, hon, if ya want quality, (ESPECIALLY down in London, or anywhere near it, for that matter), it's gonna bloody cost ya! Peace and love! Be lucky! :)

Obviously the more expensive somewhere is, the better it is, and so you can't get a decent answer just from that question. You need to work out your budget and take it from there.

What about Golders Green? It's right on the Northern Line so a straight run down to London Bridge and doesn't take too long. There are also lots of coffee shops, schools and a lovely park. It depends on your budget, but I like places that are central but not right bang in the middle of everything, you get more for your money and escape the craziness of central London :)

Morden, Mitcham, Sutton - all the suburbs and towns on the top edge of Surrey are pleasant and yet within easy commuting distance to the City, and also have lovely green spaces nearby

WALES but seriously if you must buckhurst hill, or woodford green essex, nice and 30mins in on the central line
