  • This might be a little difficult but I would be thankful for every kind of advice. My father, brother & I are planning on spending some days in Great Britain this summer. We would like to go to London and later maybe to Dublin. The problem is that my dad won't go from London to Dublin by plane (I don't know why) and that we can't go there with out own car (using a ferry or something to get on the Island) because I totally don't trust my father to adjust to left-hand-traffic with a car that's constructed for the opposite kind of system. So are there any recommendable places in London to rent a car (since we're three people it should be a four seater w/ enough space for three traveler's luggage)? Also I noticed that in some movies (even though I know those aren't good sources) there are sometimes cars rented to pass a very long distance (e.g. in "Due Date") and the people can't actually plan on returning the car to the place they signed the contract at. Is this actually possible or are there like car-renting syndicates where we could rent a car in London and then return it in Dublin at some sort of another station that belongs to the same company? If so - could you please name such a service? If I'm completely off the track and the possibilities I'm considering here are nothing but visionary I would be thankful for every alternative suggestion. Thank you in anticipation!

    Driving in London itself is not a good idea. Its hopelessly congested. Parking is hard to find and expensive and there is a daily £10 'Congestion Charge' of £10 just for using the roads. We have excellent public transport made up of the Underground (Subway), buses, London Overground, National Rail, trams and light rail From London to Dublin why don't you go by train and ferry from London Euston via the port of Holyhead Virgin Trains do a good value train/ferry combined ticket which should be booked in advance www.virgintrains.co.uk You will need your booking reference number and the same credit card you used online to collect your tickets from Euston Station in London
