  Ladbroke Grove is the area that Portobello Road Market is within, so at weekends it gets extremely busy. W10 is classified as "North Kensington", but is really Ladbroke Grove...W11 is Notting Hill which is just up the road but very different in character and feel. "the Grove" as its known by locals was traditionally (up till the 1980s at least) a cheap area that had lots of iimmigrants living there, and it had a very large Afro-Carribbean population...which is why the Carnival started there and still takes place there. Its proximity to wealthy Notting Hill meant that property prices shot up about twenty years ago and Ladbroke Grove is now a very expensive place to buy a house, though still a little cheaper than Notting Hill. There is still a sizeable Carribbean population, and the area also has a large Portugese population...but increasingly the rich white middle-class are driving them out. The area around the tube station is still quite rough, and it has a drug problem but its generally considered a pretty funky and cool place, and a lot more hip than posh Notting Hill.
