Answer:
Off the west coast of Scotland, a place called Rockall - peace and quiet, no crime, good friendly neighbours once they accept you but they can be a bit noisy at feeding time..

Agree with the person who said Yorkshire because, as a fan of cities, Leeds is hard to beat for amenities, friendliness and quality of life! I am from North Wales, originally, and have also lived in Scotland; in Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as London, before ending up in Manchester in 91. Life in London was far too expensive. Life here is great. We live in a lovely house, in a good area, with great neighbours, and love the place warts and all. Manchester is a much improved city; it is very central to get to great places like Leeds and Liverpool (another big favourite, as this was our closest, big city, as a child, where we went, every month or so, for our big city "Liverpool Day" ) in well under an hour, with great countryside nearby too, such as North Wales, The Lake District,North Yorkshire Moors, The Peak District etc....The coast is also not far away. Things happen here. There is always something new to see and do. We never ever regret settling here and are proud to call it home. London never was. Was always passing through, even though that lasted about seven years! I have grown out of the quiet of my homeland and, although I did enjoy life in the two Scottish cities, I much prefer being down here in the thick of it!!
Ludlow. www.ludlow.org.uk Wonderful architecture, friendly, cultured, lots of small shops and good places to eat and surrounded by beautiful countryside

The Lancashire towns are great - full of character and friendly people. Some, like Clitheroe, are pretty, others ( Bolton, Chorley, etc etc ) more industrial. Good road and train links mean you are never more than an hour away from the coast, Lake District, and bigger cities like Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, etc
