75% is a good score. You can get universities with ease. You can work on various activities to increase your acceptance chance. It is time to give tests like IELTS, German Language Tests like A1, A2, B1 and GRE.

Well after thinking about it for a while, my answer would be

“It is not tough to get into a German University if you are deserving”

Let's make the answer more interesting by making it a conversation

Your next question will be concentrated somewhere one the word deserving

* How am I deserving for a German University?

Well let me tell you again (as I keep telling you in my previous answers), this question is vague in context to education in Germany.

* Why? How is this vague?

Unlike Indian Education System where reputation and ranking of college decides the worth and popularity of the course, in Deutschland, it's just the other way round. Here the courses are choosen prior to Universities. Maximum of German Universities are run by government, so they are tuition free (again to maximum extent) and are hence contain an excellent faculty.

* Okay, so now how am I deserving for a course?

Finally, this is the question I am looking for and trust me this is the question you should ask if you have dire desire to study in Germany.

The admission panel of a college in Germany always look for a candidate who is really enthusiastic about the course he/she is applying for. That's the only way they decide if you deserve a place in their university or not. They scrutinise your application for the things that links your previous study or work to the course you applied for.

* How do they know this?

The admission panel focus's on the following things which directly influence your chances of getting selected.

1. Previous Study- You will only have chances to apply for only those courses which are directly related to the previous study specialisation. For example, I did my Btech in mechanical engg. Hence I am only eligible to apply fir courses which is related to ME. I cannot apply for Artificial Intelligence or Biochemical Studies.
2. Curriculum of your previous study- Sometimes just being an engineer of a certain branch won't entitle you to apply for all courses related to that branch. You must fulfill a specific credit in some particular subject in order to get into that course. This is why many university ask you to fill up a credit chart or ask you the link of your previous college curriculum during application process. For example, I got rejection for MS in Mechatronics from TUHH because I my Btech didn't had enough credits for 'Signal Theory' subject. However my friend got admit for the same as his college curriculum was meeting the requirements.
3. Internships and Work Experience- well this shows the panel members how crazy are you for the course. Interning in a company or having work experience in a firm which is somewhat associated with the course you applied for highly increases your chance for getting an admit. For example, I being a fresh graduate have no work experience, however my 2 three month old internships in Powerplants had the major role in landing me an admit for MS in Power Engg. However if you don't have this, it won't degrade your chances of getting an admit as well. Just it won't be that advantageous.
4. Research Paper on that Field - Well this is optional. Our Indian system doesn't provide us any scope for writing research paper in curriculum. However if you have any chance on these research paper, you should take it. Many IITs allow external students to help in the ongoing research topics in their dept during semester breaks. So make sure you grab an opportunity. However I would recommend you to go on an internship rather than to help someone write a research paper who most of the time don't appreciate your help and don't even mention you. (Happened to me)
5. Previous projects - Well make sure you choose your final year project wisely and in accordance of the course you want to study further in future. They surely ask about your projects during interview if you clear the first round. This can be one of the areas where you can easily sale yourself to the panel. My two projects on Powerplant and one on Automo...

It is not at all difficult to get into best public colleges in Germany. An average student with a decent GPA also gets his desired subject in the best universities of the world. I will tell you all the methods and the marks required to enter into public universities in Germany.

Eligibilty Criteria and educational qualification -

Student has to pass the 10+2 board with not less than 60%( some colleges demand 75% ) for UG courses and a decent GPA for MS courses. Also their resume and application letter should be appropriate with appealing context such that it shows your desperate will to study in the university.

Different exams to be cleared before admissions-

  • GRE for admission requirement and GMAT for business school
  • Language test DSH/ DAF for German language and IELTS/TOEFL for English language.
  • Studeinkolleg course to be completed and pass the exam successfully.

Other important documents to be presented-

  • SOP and LOR letter- Statement of Purpose letter signifies the reason behind the admission in the university and Letter of Recommendation is the referred letter through higher professionals.
  • Great Resume- Your Resume/CV should be very appealing and should be full of skill set knowledge and by seeing it the authority should approve it with flying colors.

These were some criteria to be followed and looked upon while applying for the universities. I am providing with the list of universities that are the best and rank among the top 100 in the world-

  • Technische Universität München
  • Technische Universität Berlin
  • Ludwig-Maximilians - Universität München
  • Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg
  • Freie Universität Berlin
  • Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen
  • KIT, Karlsruher Institut für Technologie
  • Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

For any doubts about the universities and application form you can visit the DAAD website and you will get your answer of your query.

I hope that this was helpful. For any further update you can ask questions.

TU-Munich is one such university where a GRE score is a necessity. You might want to do some additional research into other universities that require it.

The GATE score is likely to hold less weightage but if you can provide a brief introduction to the exam and then attach your score, it might add some value to your profile. You can see which universities accept GATE scores here. I cant account for the credibility of this information though, so do your own research as well.

The TOEFL is the only exam you need to really worry about when it comes to German universities. They have a minimum cut-off value you need to pass to be eligible to study at any of their universities. So, while the TOEFL is non-negotiable, treat the GRE and GATE scores as merely additional ways of showcasing your value.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

There are a few factors that the institutions in Germany keep in mind while selecting a student for postgraduation. One is necessarily the CGPA or GPA of your undergraduate degree and the other can be your work experience or any research projects or interships. Few days earlier I had seen at an university website which specifically mentioned that if the aggregate is low then a robust GRE score can be an added advantage. Well IELTS is a mandatory requirement if you are opting for a English taught course. You cannot deny that. Try to keep a minimum of 6.5 overall and also for each of the section

Also, if you have good research projects/thesis to flaunt, your aggregate would not be that disadvantageous. Make your SOPs and LORs really good if you are aiming for top colleges.

The thing is German educational institutions are very much inclined towards a student’s educational capabilities. Whilst, 70% aggregate is not that bad at all, there are many other factors as I mentioned above, that you can keep in mind and make a strong profile out of it.

So go for it. And hope for the best!

The language courses, if not offered free by your university (and in your course) can cost quite a bit. Just writing the exams can cost €80-120, and the courses cost a lot more. Try and learn as much as possible while you are in India/your native country itself. Not only will you save money, but a lot of time and effort as well. You will need all three in Germany.

German courses are offered typically in 6 parts- A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2. You can take any certified exam, but Goethe Institute exams are the most well accepted.

Best of luck!

  • Why this? A different point of view on the sense of what’s a university for.
    • American universities understand that college (your bachellor) is an orientation phase, where you also complete your personal formation, from the cultural and social point of view.
    • German universities understand that, after finishing high-school, you are an adult (without experience, but an adult) capable to take meditated decisions, and to take over targets and responsibilities on yourself. Alone. No help from others.
Cultural formation? That was high-school for. Social education? Home and school.
  • You choose a bachellor in biogenetics. You complete it. Or not. And decide your next step is metalurgical chemistry. Ok, you have maths, physics, chemistry. You are almost done!
Forget it. You’ll need to go for all other topics for Metalurgy to reach the thing. Almost beginning from 2 (not zero, but almost). You don’t go around jumping from science to science. You are an adult. You choose. If you change your mind, you lost some tiem and effort in between. What can be a huge lesson.
  • Back to your question: Would you be admitted? Well, it depends on the maerket: How many places are open in your program of choice? Is there any limit at all? How many candidates are there? Is there place enough for all of them? And what makes yoursefl relevant: How well do you match the complete set of prerequisites for the program?

Make your research. Good luck!

No and yes, Some universities in Germany accept GRE scores as an eligible yardstick for admission. GRE is accepted by universities offering MS courses. GMAT: While GMAT is mainly accepted for admission to business schools, some German universities also accept GMAT for law and economics related subjects.

Now , Being a member of TU9, TU Berlin doesn't require GRE score. Like most of the Universities in germany it's emphasis is mainly on precisely your academic performance. TU Berlin requires English proficiency test scores like TOEFL or IELTS

It depends!

It depends on medium of instruction for which you are seeking admission. Your medium of instruction is going to define which tests you need to go through.

German Taught:

  • B1 level German Language (Must)
  • GRE (Recommended for top universities)
  • GATE (Optional)

English Taught:

  • IELTS or TOEFL or PTE (Must)
  • GRE (Recommended for top universities, You can ignore if you are not aiming for top universities)
  • GATE (Optional, it helps you to get admission in few top universities)

My above suggestions are entirely for master applications in Germany.

German Universities do not give or give very less weightage to the GRE scores. But a TOEFL score is mandatory (preferably over 90) in all the German School applications.

The TOEFL is the minimum criteria for all international applicants to showcase your credibility in terms of understanding English in all applications for European Schools.

The universities select students based on their performance in the respective subjects for which they are applying Masters for and showcasing your GATE score is a very good indicator to show how well versed you are in the field you are applying your Masters in.

In case you have good scores to show in your transcripts itself, the GATE score is not required.

Schools across Europe are more concerned with how good you have been in your Bachelors Subjects and judge that based on your university's transcripts by creating an average credit score for all applicants. That is how their normalization procedure works. Adding up your GATE score only increases your credibility of your profile but doesn't affect the normalized score they set from your transcripts.

The decision for your selection is then based upon the various parameters such as your SOP, your credit score and the preliminary work(which includes your resume and other scores such as GATE) you have done towards the course you are applying to.

German universities consider GMAT score. It is not compulsory in Germany but there are some universities that might require GMAT/GRE. GATE is not considered in Germany.

It depends on the course and the University you are opting. As the rules and regulation varies from University to University, one has to check their official website for the details.

It depends on your profile. I mean complete profile. Have you published any international papers? What was you major? There are many things which decide scholarship, not only your professional carrier . hope it clarifies all.
