Hi,

I hired some of the best PHP Developers from Vietnam, As there is big difference in currency, I think you would get best developer in $500 to $750 a month. Thanks

Where do I start?

I’m a huge financial nerd, and have spent an embarrassing amount of time talking to people about their money habits.

Here are the biggest mistakes people are making and how to fix them:

Not having a separate high interest savings account

Having a separate account allows you to see the results of all your hard work and keep your money separate so you're less tempted to spend it.

Plus with rates above 5.00%, the interest you can earn compared to most banks really adds up.

Overpaying on car insurance

You’ve heard it a million times before, but the average American family still overspends by $417/year on car insurance.

If you’ve been with the same insurer for years, chances are you are one of them.

Pull up Coverage.com, a free site that will compare prices for you, answer the questions on the page, and it will show you how much you could be saving.

That’s it. You’ll likely be saving a bunch of money. Here’s a link to give it a try.

Consistently being in debt

If you’ve got $10K+ in debt (credit cards…medical bills…anything really) you could use a debt relief program and potentially reduce by over 20%.

Here’s how to see if you qualify:

Head over to this Debt Relief comparison website here, then simply answer the questions to see if you qualify.

It’s as simple as that. You’ll likely end up paying less than you owed before and you could be debt free in as little as 2 years.

Missing out on free money to invest

It’s no secret that millionaires love investing, but for the rest of us, it can seem out of reach.

Times have changed. There are a number of investing platforms that will give you a bonus to open an account and get started. All you have to do is open the account and invest at least $25, and you could get up to $1000 in bonus.

Pretty sweet deal right? Here is a link to some of the best options.

Having bad credit

A low credit score can come back to bite you in so many ways in the future.

From that next rental application to getting approved for any type of loan or credit card, if you have a bad history with credit, the good news is you can fix it.

Head over to BankRate.com and answer a few questions to see if you qualify. It only takes a few minutes and could save you from a major upset down the line.

How to get started

Hope this helps! Here are the links to get started:

Have a separate savings account
Stop overpaying for car insurance
Finally get out of debt
Start investing with a free bonus
Fix your credit

Like everything else in life, it depends.

If you're a run-of-the-mill developer with some exposure to PHP, rudimentary knowledge of HTTP and working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JS, consider ~ RM 3-6K (a month, that is).

If you're fairly skilled with sufficiently well rounded exposure, consider between RM10K - RM15K (a month). Of course, finding an employer that will pay you that much will be a significant challenge in and of itself.

If you're fairly skilled with sufficiently well rounded exposure, consider between RM10K - RM15K (a month). Of course, finding an employer that will pay you that much will be a significant challenge in and of itself.

As you can see, the situation in Malaysia poses a particularly difficult economic conundrum:

  1. employers are not willing to pay compensatory rates for skilled employees, and
  2. employees don't see the value of investing time/effort in building their repertoire of skills as there is no market willing to pay equitable rates

To make matters worse for Malaysian employees, our regional neighbours (Indonesia, Philippines etc) are hungry, speak the same language as us, and are willing to work hard and cheap for the dough. Smart employers leverage regional talent which further dampens demand for Malaysian employees.

Skilled hackers hit this realization roughly at the age of 30, and conclude that there is a triply-forked path ahead of them:

  1. Go freelance or start a company/startup
  2. Go down the sales/management career path where five-figure monthly salaries are possible
  3. Get lucky enough to work for the (international) tech giants

All three possibilities remove skilled hackers from the job market which explains the rarity of older skilled hackers in non-management roles. This has a material impact as technology capacity and knowhow is not kept within the organization, mentoring opportunities between seniors and juniors are lost, and every new batch of talented juniors end up re-inventing the wheel.

However, there is upside to all of this; technology entrepreneurs with keen understanding of developeronomics[0] will offer equitable or better-then-equitable rates to talented hackers and basically be able to snatch most of them up. In fact, there are couple of companies in the Valley[1] which have embarked on this hiring strategy and it is certainly working out well for them.

The tl;dr answer answer your question is that salaries aren't especially good if you're not skilled, and if you're skilled, you really shouldn't be working for the man in Malaysia.

My brother and his wife, who together earn around 16 million VND (800USD), can support their family with 2 small girl toddlers. Because they are very small, his expenses are not big at this moment so they can live comfortably. But I imagine 3 years from now, when the little girls go to elementary school, he will need to spend much more for his daughters. So he better be saving some money from now!

BTW, my relatives and I live in Hanoi, arguably the most expensive city in the country. If you live in other places or rural area, the expenses will be much less.

The rumors of PHP’s imminent demise have been going on for at least a decade. Yet today 8/10 websites use PHP in some form. PHP manages to reinvent itself constantly, much thanks to frameworks such as Symfony and Laravel.

The reason PHP developers are underpaid is because there’s an abundance of them and the barriers to entry are low. It’s easy to write shitty code with PHP and this means that a large percentage of PHP web developers do write shitty code. It doesn’t mean PHP itself is shitty. It just lends itself to bad developer habits.

Whether a language should be approachable or not is a matt

Whether a language should be approachable or not is a matter of design philosophy. I think barriers should be as low as possible to keep technology available to as many as we can. It’s a matter of democracy.

Freecash surprised me in all the right ways. I’ve earned over $1,000 in one month without ‘living’ on the platform. I was skeptical right up until the moment I cashed out to my PayPal.

What is Freecash all about?

Basically, it’s a platform that pays you for testing apps and games and completing surveys. This helps developers improve their applications while you make some money.

  • You can earn by downloading apps, testing games, or completing surveys. I love playing games, so that’s where most of my earnings came from (oh, and my favorites were Warpath, Wild Fish, and Domino Dreams).
  • There’s a variety of offers (usually, the higher-paying ones take more time).
  • Some games can pay up to $1,000 for completing a task, but these typically require more hours to finish.
  • On average, you can easily earn $30–50/day.
  • You pick your options — you’re free to choose whatever apps, games, and surveys you like.

Of course, it’s not like you can spend 5 minutes a day and become a millionaire. But you can build a stable income in reasonable time, especially if you turn it into a daily habit.

Why did I like Freecash?

  • It’s easy. I mean it. You don’t have to do anything complicated. All you need is to follow the task and have some free time to spend on it. For some reason, I especially enjoyed the game Domino Dreams. My initial goal was to complete chapter 10 to get my first $30, but I couldn’t stop playing and ended up completing chapter 15. It was lots of fun and also free money: $400 from that game alone.
  • No experience needed. Even if you’ve never done any ‘testing’ before, you can do this. You get straightforward task descriptions, so it’s impossible to go wrong. A task you might expect is something like: Download this game and complete all challenges in 14 days.
  • You can do it from anywhere. I was earning money while taking the bus, chilling on the couch, and during my breaks.
  • Fast cashing out. I had my earnings in my PayPal account in less than 1 day. I’m not sure how long it takes for other withdrawal methods (crypto, gift cards, etc.), but it should be fast as well.
  • You can earn a lot if you’re consistent. I’ve literally seen users in the Leaderboard making $3,000 in just one month. Of course, to get there, you need time, but making a couple of hundred dollars is really easy and relatively fast for anyone.

Don’t miss these PRO tips to earn more:

I feel like most users don’t know about these additional ways to make more money with Freecash:

  • Free promo codes: You can follow Freecash on social media to get weekly promo codes for free coins, which you can later exchange for money.
  • Daily rewards and bonuses: If you use the platform daily, you’ll get additional bonuses that help you earn more.
  • In-app purchases to speed up processes: While playing, you can buy items to help speed up task completion. It’s optional, but it really saved me time, and I earned 4x more than I spent.
  • Choose the highest-paying offers: Check New Offers and Featured Offers to get the best opportunities that pay the most.

Honestly, I still can’t believe I was able to earn this much so easily. And I’ve actually enjoyed the whole process. So, if you’re looking for some truly legit ways to earn money online, Freecash is a very good option.

There are local PHP jobs here that make $12 an hour. In my mind the people are probably overpaid. I also know a guy who makes over 6 figures just working on WordPress sites in a small midwest town and as busy as he is, he’s probably not charging enough.

I also knew a guy who programmed in php all of the time and kept a massive in house system running and improving for years. He provided more value to the company than the owner the company ever understood. He was in the 6 figure range too and was probably worth twice what he was making.

While PHP is maligned the closer you get to Tech cities, it is the work horse that drives most of the web. As big as tech cities are, there are still a lot more people working across the rest of the word, and a high percentage of their web work is done with PHP.

So while I don’t have statistical evidence to back this up, I highly suspect it’s because of the range of responsibilities and skills of PHP developers.

However, I think that it is difficult and unreasonable to give an average salary for all kinds of people. Having said that, a good pay for a fresh university graduate in Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam should be VND 7 million (roughly USD 312).

Overall, the pay in this country is quite low, compared to the rest of the world. This problem is attributable to poor education system, personal skills (especially soft skills), and language proficiency (principally English). If you are an expat, the wage will undoubtedly far higher.

Well, I guess the minimum is nothing, if you're an intern, or doing charity work. The maximum is hundreds of thousands of whatever currency you care to name. We’ve got two questions here. I’ll do my best to cover them both.

The first one can be answered quite easily. The answer is - no. PHP is not dead nor dying and will not be dying in near future. The reason for that is simple, it’s fast and very accessible language. In my honest opinion, it provides you with pretty much all the tools you may need to build a web app, it’s easy to configure and is long enough on the market to find all the libraries you may ever need.

PHP is more than fine, it perhaps doesn’t share the same amount of hype that is to be found around JavaScript, sure, but at the same time, the language itself compared to JavaScript by many could be considered to be easily supreme for many reasons. And before Node.js supporters will come at me angrily, let me just say that I’ve been using both, and both have some pros and cons.

PHP won’t be endangered as long as it is used by big companies such as Facebook, so if you’re asking about whether PHP is dying or not because you’re thinking about learning that language, I would say go for it. It can be super fun.

Alright, so question number two. This one is tricky because it slightly lacks in context. Compared to Java experts, or C++ experts or probably even JavaScript seniors, salary provided by PHP skills might look smaller, well, probably is smaller. But I’ve noticed, at least at my market (Poland), that this is slowly changing and the salaries for developers tend to be less differentiated. At companies that actually care about technology and product, you probably can expect to have a very similar salary as you would get if you were Java/Swift/ another language developer.

For Freshers its 8-12K.
After 1 year - 16K
After 2 year - 22K
After 3 Year - 30K
After 4 Year - 36K
After 5 Year - Upto 45K
and after that you will get bored.

All above figures are approx. and based on general and normal (not so dumb, not so bright) employees.
If you do much hard work, then no limit.

PHP Developers are Paid less as compared to other is due to its area of work .Using PHP one can only create a website (e-commerce) mostly and cannot do what other top programming languages can do such as provide security ,high performance and provide wide range of library . PHP developer area of development is of creating website , small web-apps,e-commerce sites (mostly). PHP has more e-commerce frameworks than the PHP web framework. So it revolves around the website development.

PHP has been around forever (1994) and is here to stay, at least for a long while. When I say forever, I mean relative to when the Internet went mainstream (1991–1993). I wouldn't worry about PHP going away any time soon. While other techs like Node have came about, any modern dev should know PHP.

They aren't creating Laravel or other frameworks to pay their bills. They use the framework to create websites, which pay their bills. A good framework dramatically cuts down the time to roll out a new website, makes creating the site much easier, and ensures they have a solid ground to build on. Making great use of security and other best practices.

Nobody, and I mean nobody with the exception of Fortune 500 companies, Facebook, Google, should be creating new websites from scratch. If you have a great idea, roll it out on a framework first as a prototype. Your idea could fall flat, and you want to test it as quickly and cheaply as possible. If it turns out to be the next Facebook, then you can consider having it coded from scratch.

You should not reinvent the wheel. It is unsafe and will take 10x longer, 10x the pain in the butt, and 10x the cost. If I was needing a website done, I would want a community pounded framework to ensure it isn't going to be hacked 2 mins after the site is live because they didn't use prepared statements and the login page was vulnerable to SQL injection or the sessions weren't vulnerable to session hijacking, or various other exploits that noobs don't even know exist.

A framework doesn't protect you from the “developer” from ignoring the built in functions to execute prepared statements or protect from XSS. They can still execute raw SQL from inside Laravel, or choose to echo raw user data on the page. However, most frameworks have their own functions. You can't stop them from being ignorant, but the framework has all the tools necessary, in the hands of a skilled developer who actually knows and uses it the way it is intended.

Do yourself and everyone else a favor… just use a damn framework!

All developers make good money if they are good and enjoy their craft. Language doesn’t matter all that much … it just dictates the kind of businesses the developer caters to.

You need to spend quality time to learn and work on these technology.

  • years of experience
  • area of expertise: PHP, Ruby, Python, Data Engineer

I did hiring for my company in Vietnam and we try to build out our salary banding. We divide into several levels of Software Engineer and if the candidate is within that range then we will try to fit the offer salary in. We will try to review this with other tech companies in Vietnam so that it is at the appropriate level and not interrupt the market.

According to Adecco Vietnam Salary Guide 2016, a software developer with a BA in Information Technology may be paid between 10m - 25m VND.

Robert Walters provided a much higher number: 20–28k USD for Sr. Mobile Dev. and 15–24k USD for Front-End Dev. Perhaps because their market segment lies in high-quality human resources.

Nevertheless, it would help if you provide more details of your expertise and job expectation.

Junior software engineer graduated from college: 250$ - 450 $ / month

Senior software engineer with 2 years of experience: 500$ - 900$ / month

Senior software engineer with very good English skill: 650$- 1400$ /month

Team leader with very good English skill: 1000$ - 3000$ /month

The salary of a PHP developer can vary depending on several factors, such as their location, experience, company size, and industry. On average, a PHP developer in the United States can earn anywhere from $70,000 to $120,000 per year. In other countries, such as India, the average salary for a PHP developer is lower, around $10,000 to $30,000 per year.

It's worth noting that senior PHP developers with extensive experience and additional skills can earn higher salaries, often upwards of $150,000 per year or more.

None of them do, and both of them do.

That confused you right?

Software development is software development, period… that’s it.

A sad fact of a beginners career is that 99% of beginners think what there about to do is all about the language.

It’s not, it’s about developing software and solving problems.

Don’t look for the shortcuts that people make you believe are in popular languages, because their are none.

Learn generalized software development, then pick and choose the tools you want to use and that you enjoy working with.

Some developers on Upwork are getting $75 per hour but they’re solving more complex web based business problems.

The range is $10–$75 per hour depending on the level of complexity for the job.

Depends how much you know PHP.

Assuming that you are at the basic level and can do basic web programming using core PHP then you may earn around ₹5000~₹20000.

If you know some advance PHP coding and can work on MVC frameworks, then it may range upto ₹25,000.

Now if you can really build some amazing web applications using PHP and other front end frameworks…then it may go upto 35k.

If you are working as a freelancer, then there is no restriction on your earnings (provided you build a well validated system).

One should understand that salary is not something globally comparable. It depends on the country, city and company.

As far as I know, the salary of a PHP developer will increase with his experience, but that depends on what company he is working. Also it will be mostly below the market standards, when compared with java or .net guy.

It's a hard truth, but that's what i have found. Only when you become a manager in PHP, you can expect some good salary, but that again depends on the company.
