There are several opportunities if you're dedicated enough. You can make into any of the top law schools like Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, etc. If you are interested in this path, you can apply for internship under some prof who has overlapping interest. I did one such internship at Northwestern and could have done law at NW but my research interest changed.
If you want to take up a career like IAS, you must get involved in groups at IIT preparing for UPSC exams. They are dedicated study groups that meet every week and discuss related stuff.
Whatever you want to do, pursue it and don't waste time thinking about choices. If you feel later that it is not your cup of tea, you can always change but don't waste time. Take up either one stream or any other you are interested in right now and pursue it with full dedication.
P.S. I am a CS grad from IIT and pursuing PhD at US univ.
After BTech in computer science, you have many options. It depends on your interest.
If you have good programming skills you can be a developer.
If you are not good in coding then you can be a software tester.
If you don’t have any interest in above two can opt for networking field (google CCNA course for more info regarding this )
If not, then opt for Linux, you can be system admin, server admin. (Google RHCE course)
If you have knowledge of all the above domains and want to do something different then opt for ethical hacking. (Google CEH course)

I see fellow MPA or MPP graduates working in fields where ever public sector work is done. Some go to government jobs, some non-profit agencies, many go to health care, education and any field where a knowledge of the public sector is valued.
People often mistakenly think that MPA or MPP's are not valued in business and industry. Yet any regulated industry like Oil/Gas, Energy, Finance - can benefit from a MPA's knowledge of how to navigate through government requirements. And of course, lobbyists (a lucrative gig if ever there was one) often have MPA degrees themselves.
Compliance Analysts, Public Affairs Specialists, NGO's (non-government organizations like UNICEF, the WHO, and more) and other fields can be valuable sources of jobs for MPA graduates. And of course, the MPA/MPP is a type of semi-terminal professional degree (much like the MBA for Business and the MFA for the Fine Arts) - many colleges and universities may allow you to teach with a MPA/MPP, particularly teaching Public Affairs, Public Administration or Political Science.
The important thing is to not just think about government jobs, but to also consider wide ranges of private sector jobs like "Public Affairs, Compliance, Regulation, Government Relations"
(I used my MPA in Policy, to teach Political Science on the university level, to advance as a Policy Analyst in the legislative arena - and as the academic step before working towards my PhD in Political Science.)
Good Luck to all!
Firstly, ask yourself as to why would you want to drop B.Tech and do law? Is there a strong reason? If you have plans to achieve and law is going to help you in it, by all means go for it.
Secondly, law entrance exams are there. Research about it and assess your ability in it.
Thirdly, research about law colleges and life of a law student. Do you want to live this life?
Lastly, what after graduating from law?
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Yes definitely you can pursue law after B. Tech . To do LLB you need minimum 50 percent in your graduation. If you have developed your interest in law field you can go for it.
There are many opportunities after getting LL.B degree , you can work as a legal advisor in reputed law firms , you can go in judiciary by clearing the judicial service exams conducted by different states. Can join reputed law colleges and universities as associate professor upon completion of LLM. You can work in bank sector as legal manager moreover you can go in the field of legal journalism.

I’d love to give the best option, if only there was one. It all depends on what you want to do and where you want to be after some years. Below are some popular options that come to mind (atleast from the experiences in my college):
- M. Tech - if you want to stay in India and do something that extends your interests in engineering. GATE is the entrance test and the IITs are the best for this.
- MS - if you want to ply your trade abroad, this is probably the best option. Again, there are many fields and you can extend your current field of interest or even do your MS in a management field, which is

- MBA - this is again chosen by people who want to delve into management. You can do that in India (by giving various exams like CAT, XAT and many others) or abroad (by giving GMAT, which is typically costlier than an MS degree).
- Job experience - taking up a job is probably what most people do after B. Tech or rather, end up doing. A relevant job experience immensely helps in any of the above career options. Campus placements, off campus placements, internship to pre-placement options are some of the ways to try for jobs.
Some of the uncommon but worth exploring options are creating a start-up, preparing for civil services or armed forces, becoming a lawyer, trying your hand in politics and last but not the least, venturing out to the Himalayas and doing tapasya (not a bad option after all, since you would have a lot of life experiences when you finish B. Tech).
- Graduates from any disciplines can earn a law degree and subsequently Postgraduate Certificate in Legal Practice or Postgraduate Certificate in Bar Vocational Studies through Graduate Entry Route which places a candidate on an accelerated program for Bachelor of Laws
- Politicians do not normally have an entry requirement for running for an elected office, however Laws and Politics are useful a postgraduate qualification.
There are plenty of options for you.... trick is what's the best option for you. Here are some options (not in any particular order)..

c) Get a high paying job in US or India with a MNC
d) Join a start up

My friend wants to study law and I wanna study computer science. Thing is, when you choose your degree you must not choose what topic you interested in. With computer science there a lot of math involved and with law theres less math but both streams are very demanding and you cant just worm your way through the whole degree.

With computer science there a lot of math involved and with law theres less math but both streams are very demanding and you cant just worm your way through the whole degree.
In my opinion, computer science opens a lot of doors because the uni I’ll be attending, you learn cs, is, business and economics in one degree and this enables you to also work in businesses as an analyst or something so you dont have to work with computers. Cs is also known for opening up a lot of different careers doors.
Law on the other hand is quite a narrow path. If you studying law, you must be very sure of your interest and your work prospects. In other words, you must know 100% that i wanna work in the law/court department and nothing else. I think law is easier to study at uni but it is a lot of reading and essays so you’ll be working.
Just think of your future and narrow your interests down and see which field is left. Cs you can get a job straight after uni but theres loads of math and law you need to like write exams or something after you done with your degree. I may not be correct with the latter but I suggest you do research.
Hi,
It's not at all necessary that you should be BTech in CSE to pursue MTech in CSE from IITs.
The only requirement is You have to give Gate in CSE.
I have batchmate who did his BTech in ECE and pursuing MTech in CSE from IIT Madras. He has Gate rank of 102 in Computer Science. He got placed in Myntra as a Software Development Engineer.
Also there are more options if You don't want to write GATE in CSE.
If You are in ECE you will get interdisciplinary branch in IIT Delhi as Computer Technology. It's almost similar to CS.

IIT Hyderabad has full MTech program in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
IIT Guwahati also has Signal Processing and Machine Learning MTech course.
These courses are almost similar to CS.
In IIT Madras even if you take admission in Electrical Engineering you are free to do Computer Science Engineering courses as Your core courses. Hopefully this option is available in other IITs also.
And If you are from ECE or Electrical all software Giants like Microsoft, Apple, VISA, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs etc will be open to everyone who can Code well.
Hope this answers Help.

Gone are the days when you got a job based on your degree. So, with only a B.Tech. degree in CSE you still have no scope.

NO….. NO…..NO, B.Tech in computer Science is the present and future. Law is Past. The Judicialsystem wil be build up on ethical Instruction, connected with moral Standard. executed by automatic artificial intelligent. The Judicial system by Constitution, Law and judicial system had failed to sufficient assure our existance. There are different try has been done from USA to Japan with success incl. failure, it is now kearnig process.
They can appear in all graduate level competitions conducted by UPSC
viz. Civil Services, Indian Forest Service, Indian Engineering Services, Combined Defence Services etc. and by SSC viz. Combined Graduate Level Examination etc. Please go through eligibility criteria for each examination. You have to choose optional subject(s) other than Computer Science as this subject is not an option. Many Computer Science graduates choose Mathematics in Civil Services Examination as the syllabus is static.Good luck.

I’ve worked for the United Nations, NATO, and the Department of Defense. Nevertheless, some of my classmates are now working in education, law enforcement agencies, along with local government.
If you want to be a lawyer. My guess is - since you’re asking this on a forum like quora - if you’re genuine - you have not figured out that you want to do law. Its ok - have a long hard detailed think. Ask a few people who are lawyers what their experience and work day is like. Maybe spend a week odd shadowing them - and then think if this is the kind of work you woulld like to do. Then make a call.
If you are perusing B Tech in Computer Science then it will better to go for a good private job because there is not much scopes in government jobs for a computer engineers. I say to look for a job in sales or marketing that has to do with computers. You obviously know something about computers but are not at the “top of the game” in this subject. Presumably, you can pinpoint the highlights of computers or programs and operate them for demonstration purposes.
Computer science opens up career opportunities in at least 20+ emerging fields. Few of them are;
- Programming - as programmer
- Database administration
- Cloud computing
- Cyber security
- Consulting
- Enterprise resource planning
- Internet - Website design
- eCommerce / mCommerce
- Mobile App development
- Teaching / Training
- Social media / Digital marketing
- Computer application development
- Network administration
- Business analytics
- Artificial intelligence
- etc.

I will suggest you to do your own research depending upon your interest after B.Tech in CS. Find your interest, which excites you more, then do specific studies about the requirement.
If you would have asked in more specific then i would have given you answer in more details. But as you have asked, i can only say, that you can choose your career in doing jobs in engineering, business, prepare for civil services, GATE,MAT,CAT,etc.
All options are available for you. It’s all about your interest in the domain/area in which you want to start your career.
All the Best!
You do not get as enticing offers in government office as much you get in semi-government sector.

If you want to learn anything, that was not possible during BTech hectic semesters(eg. creating Android/ios app). Take a year break(unless you have financial issues) and learn those subjects that you wanted to learn from a very long time, but with a little tight deadline. Implement the practical application and put in display for the world to see..
You can also think of entering into Research, but for that you have to give lot of entrance test. So you can brace yourself to prepare for all sort of Aptitude test and can get into research field in computer science. However make sure you have sound knowledge of Algorithms and Data structure.

If you write GATE in CS and get a very good rank then you can join IIT Bombay I guess, because 2015 GATE CS topper (AIR 1) was from Mechanical Background, currently he is pursuing M.Tech. in IIT Bombay in CSE. Also if you don’t want to write GATE in CS then there is another option for you. IIT Guwahati offers M.Tech. + Ph.D. dual degree course for those students who have Non-CS B.Tech. degree. You can check about the course info here Admission to M.Tech.+Ph.D. (Dual) in CSE
As Robert said , if you are obsessed and you are stubborn in knowing more about your area of study, start Ph.D and take up teaching as a career, saying that you can start teaching soon after your M.tech but the level knowledge and reputation you gain will be more if you have a doctorate( Ph.D ) else you can find a job in IT industry , which is a boring .

3 options in my knowledge-
1)MBA-if you never want to work in engineering domain then go for MBA.
You can do so by clearing CAT/GMAT exams.
2)Go for bank's PO exam-a govt job.
3)join any consultancy company like accenture etc.- because they do not require hardcore technical knowledge.
Optional-
You can try SSC/State Public Service Exam(like bpsc/uppsc) exam as well for BDO etc type govt post.
